The Footfalls of First Light (pratham alo)

After a long interval, once again a contribution from Kausik. We welcome him back.

Bengali Version

The moment they sounded – the footfalls of first light
At once my heart, my nest-averse heart, took flight...
Where in the blue endless    What made him sad, restless
None knows the whereabouts of that cryptic plight.

'Relinquish the slumber-bed' urged it clearly,
'Let us go' it enjoined, 'Where across the sea,
Streams from the world over    shake off the shackles there,
The humble lamp's flame mingles with ocean of light.'
