Viewing History Up Close At Local
Festival
The 2000 Wild Rose Moon Living History Festival marked the 20th
anniversary of this popular area event. Located southeast of Bristol
not far from historic Bonneyville Mill, it is a once-a-year chance
for visitors to experience the sights, sounds and foods of long ago.
Many people help to make this fund raiser for the benefit of Loveway,
a non-profit local therapeutic horseback riding facility, dedicated
to the rehabilitation of those with disabilities.
Located on the spacious pasture behind the Loveway Center, the Festival
featured re-enactors from several time periods, including the Middle
Ages and an early American village set in the time period of 1700-1840.
Merchants offered fresh baked goods, hand-crafted items and merchandise,
experts offer demonstrations of blacksmithing, spinning and weaving,
and others dress in carefully recreated costumes of long-ago and live
for the weekend as their ancestors did.
Set up begins mid-week before the Festival. Tents are pitched on the
grounds in a setting that fosters a feeling of community as stews are
shared and stories are swapped.
Visitors can tempt their own appetites with pancakes and sausages,
Buffalo burgers, roast pig, bean soup, chicken, and desserts. A
vintage Tea Room offers tea and music.
