The fountain is dedicated to Silvius Brabo,
the legendary hero of the city
(see the page on ANTWERP).
The main building on the 'Grote Markt' is the renaissance townhall, partially visible left of the fountain.
To the right: one of the many magnificent renaissance houses in this neighbourhood, called "The Angel" (houses had a name in these days); the well known old pub downstairs has the same name.
You should try a typical glass of beer there: a "bolleke"- it has a 'bowl' form - brewed by a famous Antwerp brewery with a 'royal' name ! Find out yourselves...
