Parents/Teachers of Lewis & Clark Minutes - September 2001

Attendance:

Treasury Report:
- Total funds available: $4,202.01 (See Gail Martyn)
2000/2001 audit was conducted by Irene Fuller and Shannon Row.
*Motion to rollover $1500 from ground enhancement into the general fund to cover early school year costs. Voted and approved.

Old Business:
- By-Law Changes:
It was voted and approved to re-word Article VI, Section 1, item E and Article III, item D. For detailed info, please see Gail Martyn.
- Canoe: The Canoe, created by graphic artist, David Laubenthal, has been installed and is hanging in the Clark entrance of the school.
- Loud and Clear: A motion was made to spend $2775 on the Loud and Clear program for grades 3-5, which instructs students on how to prepare and present speeches. This also includes a teacher workshop for both Lewis and Clark staff to attend. Voted and approved.
- Benches and Funball: These items are here and ready to be installed. A motion was made to allocate $200, if necessary, to install both items in a speedy manner. Voted and approved.
- Playground Equipment: Several hours were spent on Aug. 24/25th installing the Clark playground equipment. The volunteers worked hard and long on this installation. These people are what make Lewis and Clark such a wonderful school for our children to grow. Thank you for all your time and effort.
- Front Entrance Sign: The brick sign and planter have been put in place on 9th street. We have stainless steel letters that we may use for the sign. However, we are looking for additional creative suggestions and ideas. See Jerry Meadows to share thoughts.
**Thank you to Mrs. Menze and Mrs. Clift for planting the beautiful flowers that border the sign.

New Business:
- Fall Family Festival: It was moved to spend $493.10 on dinner items for the festival to take place on October 11th. Voted and approved.
A request was also made to spend $450 for carnival items and $400 for a DJ, for a total of $850. Voted and approved.
- Book Fair: Date change-The Book fair will take place Monday, October 8 through Monday, October 15th in the library. Come with your child and see all the wonderful books available. Hooked on Phonics will be a new feature this year. PTLC has voted and approved to participate in Reading Jamboree.
- Spirit Week: Kerry Marshall will organize this fun week. Information will come home with your child as to what will take place during the week of October 8 through 11th. Anyone willing to help, please contact Kerry.
- Masterpiece Cookies: This fundraiser will begin Friday October 16th, orders collected on the 30th and delivery is scheduled for November 14th. This was a tremendous success last year and we are looking forward to another success. Money will be put into the PTCL General fund, with the understanding that part will be allocated to help pay for swimming lessons for the Lewis Campus.
- Spunkmeyer Cookies: Once again cookies will be hot and fresh and ready for sale every Friday. (.35 cents per cookie or 3 for $1.00) A volunteer is needed every other Friday from 12-3, starting September 21st. If interested please contact Gail Martyn.
- Cross Talk:
- Request $200 to spend on incentives for our crossing guards.
- Request $229 for a climbing rope and mini cones for PE.
- Request $60 for birthday cookies.
All requests above were voted and approved.
- Request $100 for cafeteria decoration.
Motioned to get more detailed information on exact decorations desired.
- T-Shirt Drawing: There will be a T-shirt drawing for each classroom during open house (September 20th). Last school year there was $200 allocated for this purpose, but due to an increase in class size, there was a motion made to provide sufficient funds to cover the extra cost. Voted and approved.
- Fun Run & Easter Candy Sale: to be discussed at October meeting.
