First that name....The Presidents Of The United States Of America decided to call themselves that after touring around America under a number of different names, until one day they decided to choose the longest name they could think of, and it lasted.
They have released 3 studio albums: their first, a self titled one followed by II and Pure Frosting, all on Columbia Records, plus one more called rarities, full of live, previously unheard songs and 4 track originals. The new album "freaked out and small" is due for release in the second week of September.
After a split in 1998, I was delighted to hear that Chris Ballew, Dave Dederer and Jason Finn had teamed up with a Seattle rapper called Sir Mix-a-Lot, to form Subset....
They are currently taking it easy around the clubs in Seattle but talk of an album is expected soon.
Chris Ballew, lead singer and Basitarist has also released two albums produced entirely by himself over the past 10 years in his home studio. They have been released under the name of the giraffes and are called '13 Other Dimensions' and 'the days are filled with years'....
Above you can see the cover of '13 other dimensions. It's a bizarre album and has some great songs, including Wither Without You, Lonely Chicken, Hopeless (rub it in), Ghost of a bad friend, damn it, all of 'em! You can order it from any record shop, released on Seattle's 'My Own Planet' record label.
Other bands that the guys from The Presidents have been involved with include The Chris and Tad show (Chris Ballew), Sandford Arms (Jason Finn), The MVPs (Dave Dederer), The Congratulators (Jason Finn) and The Tycoons (Chris Ballew).
The biggest news of all however, is the new material from Chris Dave and Jason. Under the name 'The Presidents' the guys will be releasing 'freaked out and small' in September. In conclusion then, these guys are great and now that you're educated, go buy some albums and enjoy!
