We are writing on behalf of Progressive
Episcopalians of Pittsburgh, an organization of laity and clergy in the Diocese
of Pittsburgh, PA, to congratulate the Rev. Canon V. Gene Robinson on his
election and forthcoming consecration as bishop of the Diocese of New
Hampshire.
To our Episcopal sisters and brothers in parishes throughout New Hampshire,
we say thank you for your wisdom and courage in choosing Canon Robinson to be
your leader, knowing as you did the controversy that choice might well bring
upon you. We know that under Bishop Robinson's leadership, your diocese will
exemplify the best of our Anglican faith and practice, and our church's concern
for the social and spiritual welfare of all people.
As we rejoice in your good fortune, we regret that our Diocese of
Pittsburgh and our bishops opposed the action of the Episcopal Church's recent
General Convention ratifying your election of Canon Robinson, and that our
bishop has worked since then to turn the worldwide Anglican Communion against
the Episcopal Church USA and against your diocese and any others that support
you.
We and many others in our diocese repudiate these efforts, and we will
stand in communion with you through whatever trials may come, singing always
unto the Lord, and heartily rejoicing in the strength of our salvation, in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Yours faithfully, Charles
Robideau Christopher Wilkins for Progressive Episcopalians of
Pittsburgh
