We had a great 4th of July. Our niece, Melissa from Las Vegas, flew in on Friday and stayed with us until Monday. Bruce hadn't seen her for three years and the boys and I hadn't seen her for five or six years.
Melissa liked my chickens and they liked her a lot too!
On Saturday morning I took Melissa to see the waterfalls and Crown Point.

Then, as usual, we took David to work at the Portland Zoo. Melissa, Daniel and I walked around at the zoo for a while. Then we took the lightrail (MAX) into Portland.
In downtown we walked around and went to the Saturday market which is like a flea market/farmer's market but mostly all artistic crafts and psychadelic clothes. Then we went to Powell's bookstore, the hugest bookstore I've ever seen. Then we took the train back to the zoo and got David.
Bruce got off work early and met us for dinner. Then the next day was the 4th. Like we've done for the past two years, we sat in front of our friends' house for the parade and caught candy that the people in the parade threw. Daniel rode his bike in the parade.
After the parade we went to the school where there was a festival with booths and music. Daniel played his flute in the talent show and he was awesome!

Dan on the school field....David with girls (as usual!)....Bruce & Melissa with a cuddly dog
Later David and I took Melissa to McMenamins-Edgefield which is too cool to explain right now. You just have to see it! Then that night we sat on the school field for the fireworks, which were the best we've ever seen! They lasted about 35 minutes and we were right under them. Our friend, Tiffany, met us on the field and watched them with us.

When we got home the boys & Melissa set fireworks off in the driveway with our neighbors next door.
Melissa went home on Monday and we miss her, but we'll be seeing her soon because she and Joey are going to drive to S. California when we go in just 2 1/2 weeks.
