Onteora '79 - Newsletter for the Class of '79 and friends

March, 2004

Happy Spring to everyone!

After a less-than-average snowfall here in the Northeast it seems Mother Nature has made up for some lost time with a few late season snow storms.

We would like to welcome a number of "new" alumni that have been added to our list this month.  Anita has been aggressively searching for and contacting a number of you, and has come back with many positive comments from all of you.  This leads us to our first topic - Lost Alumni.

Lost Alumni
A new tab has been added to the website ( www.geocities.com/Onteora79) to identify a number of classmates that we've lost touch with and for whom we don't have a current mail or email address.  If you happen to know the whereabouts of any of these folks please let us know.  We really want to make sure that as many people know about the reunion as possible.

Support for the
Reunion
Many thanks to the following individuals that have generously provided us with funding to help support the planning of the reunion:

Carol Barlow-Desmond
Patty Fineran-White
Peter Humphries
Marilyn Nussbaum-Van Fleet
Gil Proper

For those of you that would like to make contributions they can be made payable to:

Reunion Sponsors
This month we're pleased to welcome two new sponsors of our program:

ACS Express Racing - Class affiliation, Peter Humphries
Atent & Associates - Providing data entry, statistics, and web
surveys for over 13 years.  Class affiliation, Anna Maria Busciglio-Tentnowski

Affordable sponsorship opportunities still exist - for more information on the benefits of sponsorship contact Dave Shultis at either 1-877-797-6767 x1136 or 508-241-6002, or email [email protected].

Saturday Night Focus
New World Home Cooking in Saugerties will be the host of our Saturday evening dinner party, where we want you to sit back and have a relaxed meal, some great dinner conversation, and a perfect ending to a nice summer weekend.  Additional information on the cost of this event will be provided in the April/May timeframe.

Personal Web Pages
What better way is there to keep each other updated on your current life than to share information via your own personal website.  One simple way is to check out Geocities from Yahoo ( http://geocities.yahoo.com/).  A simple page can be assembled in minutes at no additional cost.  Other providers offer similar services.

Alternatively, if you have digital photos that you'd like to share send them to Randy, and he'll create a spot on the reunion website to post them.

Flashback - this month in history - courtesy of www.thehistoryplace.com

10 years ago this month - March 12, 1994 - The Church of England ordained 32 women as its first female priests. In protest, 700 male clergy members and thousands of church members left the church and joined the Roman Catholic Church which does not allow women priests.

15 years ago - March 24, 1989 - The largest oil spill in U.S. History occurred as the oil tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound off Alaska, resulting in 11 million gallons of oil leaking into the natural habitat over a stretch of 45 miles.

March 28, 1979 - Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident occurred in which uranium in the reactor core overheated due to the failure of a cooling valve. A pressure relief valve then stuck causing the water level to plummet, threatening a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. The accident resulted in the release of radioactive steam into the atmosphere, and created a storm of controversy over the necessity and safety of nuclear power plants.

Until next time...
