Onteora Class of 1979 Reunion Update

January, 2004

Greetings fellow classmates,

We hope this note finds you and your family’s new year off to a flying start.  Last fall we began the process of reconnecting with all of you, and we would like to thank you for your responsiveness, interest, and comments about our plans for getting together to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Our mission over the next 6 months is to help you reconnect with some of those friends that you may have lost touch with over the years.  We plan to do this through:

A monthly update keeping you current on reunion plans and activities.

A “Yahoo Groups” type of forum for you to post notes to each other.

An “official” website that will be your up-to-date resource on all things reunion related (www.geocities.com/Onteora79).

Updates also posted on Classmates.com.

All of these activities will culminate in a class reunion weekend to be held Friday and Saturday, July 30th & 31st, 2004.

Here’s our preliminary schedule:

Friday evening- a free admission event (low cost, low risk, come for 10 minutes or 3 hours).  We're seeking a restaurant that offers a private room (to ensure that everyone present is either a member or friend of our class), a bar and access to food, if desired.  Many of you have expressed interest in inviting friends from other class years, and this would be a great venue to welcome them.

Saturday day- a picnic style event at a park located within the Onteora School District.  This will be a fun, casual afternoon with games for the kids (and adults).

Saturday evening- a dinner at New World Home Cooking in Woodstock.  This event is designed to be a nice casual evening, and a great way to cap off the weekend.

Sunday– nothing official is planned at this time, although some people have discussed golf.

Volunteer efforts needed

We can do some of the logistics work, and help put the wheels in motion, but in order for our weekend to be a memorable one we’re looking for a few of you to raise your hand and help us out.

Opportunities exist to assist us with:

The Saturday picnic – location, activities, etc.

Saturday evening video/Powerpoint presentation – can we put together something that will be a nice remembrance (combination stroll down memory lane/current photos)?

Contributions to get us started / Sponsorship program

We’re looking for small contributions from our class to cover expenses such as postage, mailings, down payments, a reunion program, etc.  Our goal is $400, and any contribution you can make ($10, $25, $50) would be very valuable.  Please make checks payable to – Onteora Reunion ’79 c/o Anita Soovajian Reynolds, 181 Clifton Avenue, Kingston, NY  12401.

For those of you who are entrepreneurs or know of businesses that would like to support this event, we are also introducing a sponsorship program.  For a complete detailed briefing of the package available contact Dave Shultis at [email protected] or 508-241-6002.

A final thought for this month

Take advantage of the technology that exists and melt away the years.  Set up a personal website where you can share thoughts, memories, photos.  It’s a great way to get us up-to-date on your life, and it will enrich our conversations when we meet in person in July.  The options range from no charge (i.e., geocities, msn) to designing your own site.  Here are a couple of examples for you to check out:

www.geocities.com/dashultis/mypage - Dave Shultis

www.murraymadhouse.net - Sean Murray

For those of you on the East coast – stay warm, and for those of you in warmer locales…when can we visit?

Take care,
