| Mariah To Perform For Ashanti? Record label Def Jam will host a star studded party next week to celebrate the album and single release of R&B star Ashanti. The singer's debut single, Foolish, is out on 8 July with an album to follow. The album has already hit the No 1 spot in the US. The party will be one of Def Jam's finest with record company Godfathers Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons in attendance especially for the occasion. The pair recently signed Mariah Carey to the Def Jam label and diva Carey is rumoured to be attending the party and performing. Ashanti will be performing on the night and guests will include high profile celebrities from the UK as well as big name US label mates. Ashanti has already featured in the UK Top 10 twice this year with her collaborations with Ja Rule (Always On Time) and Fat Joe (What's Luv). Ashanti and Ja Rule will be doing a signing at the Virgin Megastore, 14-16 Oxford Street, London on Wednesday 3 July. In related Ashanti news, the star has started an alternative career away from musc, as a poet. The singer is set to release a book of poetry and reflections entitled 'Foolish/Unfoolish: Reflections Of Love'. The book is expected to hit shops in November. Mariah Working With Another Producer R&B producer Mike City is in talks with Mariah Carey about doing some tracks for her next album. City has recently worked with Solange Knowles, Dave Hollister and Terry Dexter. Greatest Hits Still Strong In Australia After being released on December 3rd, 2001 and peaking at #55 on the mainstream album chart and #4 on the urban album chart... all of a sudden Mariah Carey Greatest Hits has bounced back from nowhere. Seven months after its release it has jumped into the ARIA Urban Top 20 Albums chart again, this time landing at #16. It has also been certified gold with little to no promotion. Good News For Wise Girls In Belgium The Belgian distributor of Wise Girls confirmed that Belgian people will be able to see Wise Girls for sure. The movie will be released either in the movie theaters or on DVD or both. Rod heard yesterday on the radio in Brasil (Jovem Pan, the largest radio) that Mariah's new album is due out in November 2002, and the first single in September and that she is now recording a track with Nickelback. Remember it's not confirmed yet and it may not be true. Jammin' With Mariah And Whitney Jimmy Jam has been working with pop/R&B divas Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston Last week at the annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremonies, Jimmy Jam talked about being in the studio with two of music's greatest singers. "Mariah's doing great, very energized and very enthusiastic," Jimmy said about Mariah's attitude in the studio. Jam and his partner Terry Lewis have worked on four songs for Mariah already. The dynamic producing duo from Minneapolis are also going to work with Whitney on her next project, Jam says they haven't gone into the studio with Houston just yet, but have had phone conversations about the direction they want to take with the album. The two have not worked with Houston before, and they say it's something that they're really looking forward to, later on this year. Mariah #7 On Celebrity 100 Ranking Mariah has made it to number 7 on Forbes magazine's 'Celebrity 100' ranking with $58 million and 327,000 web hits.
