THE MESSAGE OF OSFERTH ORThe Odinic Rite held its Great Moot in England on the weekend of 8-9 November. The message of Osferth OR to the gathering was read by Heimgest DCG. It follows:
Greetings from Vinland to all our Comrades of the Odinic Rite!
Unfortunately we could not send a member of our Branch to this year's Great Moot...however, we send our warmest regards to the Court of Gothar, our Director, and all members world-wide. The positive steps taken by the Rite are being noticed by true Odinists the world over and we know that by each of your dedication to the Nation of Odin, our Folk will awaken, and we will be at the forefront of a true spiritual rebirth.

Added 22 November 1997 RUNIC TEXT UNCOVERED
Excavations at the Royal Opera House, Covent Gardens, in London, have unearthed a single runic text. This text was carved on a bone implement, possibly a knife handle. It has been sent to Cambridge for further study. I have yet to see any press coverage of this find, but will let you know more as details become available.

Added 22 November 1997 GERMAN RUNE HYSTERIA!
Reaching new levels of absurdity, the German government has ordered the destruction of millions of stamps. Forty-four million stamps commemorating Heinrich Heine, designed by Gerhard Lienemeyer, were released 6 November. It is unknown how many of the stamps were sold, but all that remain in government possession will be destroyed. The reason? On the borders of each sheet of ten stamps the rune elhaz appears! Rather than claim the thousands of years of heritage embodied in this symbol, rather than accepting the ancient meaning of the rune, the German government has chosen to characterize it as a far-right political symbol and hence it must be purged. This highlights the fact that in Germany the ancient symbols of our faith, the keys to our ancient mysteries, are in many cases forbidden. (Does anyone know if I'm violating German thought-crime law for saying so?)

SECOND MOUNTAIN KINDRED ANNOUNCES BIRTHOn November 25th, 1997 at 2:15 pm, Eric and Belinda Lowe celebrated the arrival of Jayne Bridget Lowe into Midgard. Weighing in at 8 lbs 10.25 ozs and 20.75 inhes long, Jayne was blessed by her father in Thor's name. Jayne is named for her paternal grandmother. Jayne will, of course, be raised in accordance with the Faith.
ODINIC RITE APPOINTS AREA REEVEThe Odinic Rite has appointed Gramson AOR as Area Reeve OR for the East Coast of Vinland. In consultations between Heimgest DCG and Osferth OR, Gramson AOR was appointed on the basis of his proven loyalty and long-time devotion to the ancestral gods. I will add contact details and perhaps a bit more information in the near future.
