LONE TREE KINDRED OUTREACH PROGRAMLone Tree Kindred launched "Operation Open Hand" on the Tuesday the 29th of July. The purpose of this was part of Lone Tree's outreach program, reaching out to the host community and let them see Folkish Asatru for what it is: A living, viable religion. Thus far all reports on contacts with the public have been positive. Outreach is one portion of the mission, recruitment being the other for those interested in joining. This kindred activity will continue until Aug 7.
A small note: Ragnar Schuett of Lone Tree Kindred has become the co-editor of Hnikar's Folkish Asatru Page. I will be updating the FAP while Hnikar is gone seafaring. Of course, it will be announced when I'll be filling in.
SOMETHING TO CONSIDER II Submitted by Reinhold Clinton Dr. James Chatters, the prominent anthropologist who has spent more time examining the Kennewick Man than anyone else, had the following to say concerning the theory that the earliest inhabitants of North America were originally from Europe:
1. The earliest evidence of human habitation in North America is to be found at Clovis, New Mexico.
2. The Clovis material culture with its fluted spear points is closest in comparison with paleolithic Europe's stone breaking techniques. When you compare the human skeletons of the Clovis era with the material culture found during the same period, you are presented with a strong argument in favor of European migration into the Americas.
3. In Wenatchee, Washington, scientists have found evidence of another Clovis type site, which they call Clovis, Wenatchee. Kennewick Man was not found too far from the remains of Clovis, Wenatchee.

ODINIC RITE VINLAND UPDATEThundersley Hearth OR(V) in Ohio held their annual Sleipnir Blot on 2 August. Osferth OR(V) writes "happy to say that the blot was fantastic, and a good time was had by all...even by our cat, Alex, who came right up to the altar during the blot, nearly catching himself on fire! At any rate, the Blot of Sleipnir reminds us of our link to all living things in this world, so it was rather fitting to have the animals of the home present.
"Other notables...Heidrun AOR (my wife) has generously offered her help as ORVinland Secretary, taking care of all the financial and secretarial duties. Official confirmation from London forthcoming, though I'd point out that it's expected.
"The ORVinland has secured a copy of the massive (1068 page) three-volume work by the late Swedish professor, Viktor Rydberg, entitled Teutonic Mythology: Gods and Goddesses of the Northland. Thanks to Steve McNallen! One other title we seek is John Hargreave's Confessions of the Kibbo Kift. If anyone can obtain a copy for us, we'd be most appreciative!
"As many know, Heimgest, the Director of the Court of Gothar of the Odinic Rite, will arrive in Vinland as the guest of honour of the Asatru Alliance AlThing in September in Utah, and will be signing the bylaws of the newly formed International Asatru/Odinic Alliance. The cost of the trip is enormous, and the Asatru Alliance has organised a fund to defray the travel costs. However, as the date approaches, they are short of the mark of the needed US$1200. (Valgard assures us that Heimgest's ticket has been purchased in advance, so he will certainly attend, but as a comrade of his, I simply feel it necessary to ask other comrades to contribute a small donation to the AA to help cover this expense). All contributions should be sent directly to the AA.

"The big news about here is the creation of the ORVinland Hofgothi Training Programme-which is a comprehensive training programme designed for ORVinland members to be officially 'ordained' as Hofgothar by the ORVinland, and to assist them in the proper recognition in their home state. The ultimate goal is for our Holy Nation of Odin to have a network of ordained Hofgothar available in all marks in Vinland so that we can legally marry our members, as well as be recognised as official clergy in the public eye.

Hnikar here again- I've been asked on occasion by a number of people about the possibility of forming an e-mail list where Folkish Asatruar/Odinists can speak without having to slosh through the PC sludge often found on alt.religion.asatru. I respond that, first, I like to confront the universalists on a.r.a. and I wouldn't have time to monitor an e-mail list, and, second, such an e-mail list exists already! The OR(V) sponsors a mailing list where members can speak directly to one another. As necessary as it is to untangle universalist distortions on the newsgroup, it sure is nice to be able to speak with true folk on the OR(V) list without having to listen to the latest fashionable nonsense being paraded about as Asatru/Odinism.
Ymir Thunarsson, the Wodensgodi of the Eagles Reaches Hof in Texas (Ft. Worth area) has been placed under observation at Baylor Medical Center (Grapevine) after chest pains on Friday.While not directly diagnosed as a heart attack, Ymir shall be monitored throughout the week.

YMIR THUNARSSON HEALTH UPDATEFollowing a five-day stay for observation of chest pains, Ymir Thunarsson of AErnfolk/Eagles Reaches shall be continuing treatment for arterial problems.
Ymir has presently been released and shall recieve outpatient care for his condition (when further analyzed...) with occasional stays at a local clinic.
ER is relieved that Ymir did not suffer a genuine cardiac arrest, although there is yet a way to go before he shall resume more normal activities.
AErnfolk/Eagles Reaches thanks its kin and friends across the Motherland for their phone calls and e-mail this last week.
Ymir says that he is grateful for the concerns and well-wishes sent his way by so many of his kin and colleagues.
