Power's Intro

In 1855, when the Yellow Fever Epidemic hit Edna and Baby Richard, who was just three months old, they died on the same day. Emma was only 10 months old when Richard was born and so she had just turned a year when her baby brother and mother died. Elizabeth was 5, and Emily was 7.

Roger was at the tender age of 13. When he saw his father turn to the bottle for comfort, then he took over the duties of raising the girls and supporting the family with odd jobs. His father had given the bank up. He even gave the people's money back and said whoever wanted the bank could have it. Roger was never any good at math, so he couldn't run the bank. His father just didn't see any reason to go on living. Roger grew up fast taking care of his sisters and he has had his hands full with them. When the Lucky Ace Saloon opened up he decided to ask for a job as barkeeper so that he could keep an eye on his father. Besides it would be more stable income than the odd jobs he was used to.
