that still wasn't right. Kid tore the paper free of the tablet and added it to the
crumpled pile at his side. Dear

stopped again, unsure of how to go on. He thought he ought to say something about how much
he missed her, but somehow the words wouldn't I
bought a horse. I call her Katy and she is a good mare. I had to fight in a boxing contest
to win the money to pay for her, but I am not sorry I did. She seems very trusting and is
a gentle horse. You would like her. I am on my way to a little town called Sweetwater,
where I hear there is work. I know you said you didn't mind me borrowing the money, but it
bothers me and I hope it is a debt I will not have long. I will write more later. It is so
cold now that my fingers are numb and I cannot hold the pencil well. It is almost
springtime here, I will hate to see what the real winter weather feels like. Kid
