FEBRUARY 6, 1860
Eleanor Thomas decided to take a walk, she served the lunch to her husband and her grandchildren and she needed a time to herself. She walked around their property and found a nice place to rest under a tree.
A couple hours after lunch Bird decided to take some time off for himself. Bird mounted Red, his horse, and rode off without a real destination. After some time riding he saw a woman sitting under a tree. He rode closer and dismounted to see if she was fine. Eleanor heard a horse approaching and a few minutes later she saw an old Indian man coming towards her.
"Excuse me ma'am, are you ok?" Bird asked getting closer to her. Eleanor looked at him knowing that she had seen him before. She tried to hide the bottle of whiskey she had been drinking. Bird continued, "I'm sorry. I'm Wild Bird. I work at the hotel with Miss Catherine Paige."
Eleanor gave him a shyly smile recognizing him. "Oh, hello Mr. Bird. I'm Eleanor Thomas," she greeted him, "I'm fine but what are you doing in our lands?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I was just riding and I did not realize I was in on your land. Well, I'm going I didn't mean to disturb you Mrs. Thomas." Bird answered.
"It's ok, you aren't disturbing me." She hesitated for a second and then she said embarrassed, "You might be thinking why is an old woman hidden here drinking alone ".
Eleanor Thomas was a good woman, but the last days had been hard. She loved her husband and grandchildren but some times she just desired to be alone, so she took long walks carrying a bag with a bottle of whiskey. She used it to relax when she felt too tired.
"I'm not thinking anything Mrs. Thomas," Bird replied. He didn't need to know her reasons. Bird knew someone like her. Catherine liked to ride alone to relax and some times she also liked to drink a little bit, too.
Eleanor could see in Bird eyes that he had understood why she was there, she liked him, and he seemed to be a good man. Bird then helped her to get up and said. "Do you need a ride back home, Mrs. Thomas?"
"No thanks, Bird, may I call you Bird?" She asked smiling. Bird nodded yes. Eleanor continued, "I think I will stay a little longer."
Bird smiled back and mounted Red again. "I think I better go. Catherine might need me at the hotel."
Eleanor walked towards him asking, "Can we keep this talk a secret? I don't want to worry Liam or the kids."
"Of course Mrs. Thomas, you didn't need to ask me that." Bird affirmed gently and continued "And if you ever need something, you can count on me."
Eleanor nodded her head smiling at him. Bird rode off going back to the hotel. Eleanor watched him riding thinking about all the different kind of people she had met in Dreamville. She put the bottle inside the bag again and went back home.
