SEPTEMBER 14, 1860
Walter and Ted were glad to be back to their permanent positions. Ted was especially glad. He had only been willing to dress as a girl for Jacy, but now no one could find her.
Mr. Simmons was in his bank office right now talking with the pinkerton detective that he had hired. As Ted was thinking about how the detective was going to find Jacy, Mr. Simmons and Rodney Newman, the detective, came out.
"Ted, Rodney and I are going over to the newspaper office. I'll be back in a little while." Walter said as he continued to the door with Rodney right behind him. Ted watched as they left the building. He hoped Rodney would be able to locate Miss Jacy. He missed her
Melissa opened the door and saw a big round belly in front of her. She looked up to see a 6'2", stocky built and very friendly face. Melissa backed up and looked him over from head to foot. "Good afternoon, you must be Miss Melissa." Rodney smiled down at the young girl.
"Umm . . . ummm ye ... yes, I ... I am." She stuttered without taking her eyes off him.
"Hello Melissa," Walter said as he came into Melissa's view. "We would like to talk to you for a few minutes, ok?"
Melissa nodded and moved back from the door, so they could enter.
About a half hour later Walter and Rodney left the PEG office. Walter went to his office, and Rodney went to check out of the hotel, retrieve his horse from the livery and go in search of the missing newspaper owner.
When work was over Walter and Ted had supper and relaxed a little bit before going to Caller Bob's for square dancing class.
When Walter walked into the barn, he scanned the room and his eyes landed on Desiree who was standing beside Ivy and Noah talking with them. He joined them. "Good evening, ladies, Noah." The trio greeted Walter. "Are you ready for class, Desiree?"
"Yes, I am. I can't wait to see what Caller Bob is going to teach us tonight. This square dancing is fun." Desiree smiled at Walter. Ivy and Noah agreed with Desiree, square dancing is fun!
After everybody arrived, Caller Bob said, "Square 'Em Up!" Walter held out his arm for Desiree and they joined their square. Their square did very well that evening. Walter and Desiree thought that their square did much better than any of the others.
Ted's partner had left town, so he ended up with Clover for the evening. Ted was frustrated with Clover at the end of the dance because she kept messing up all night due to the fact that she was keeping more track of Noah then her own square.
