AUGUST 23, 1860
Ted and Walter were discussing Jacy's disappearance at a table in the hotel. "She couldn't have gone far on foot. I can't figure out why no one has found her yet. Nobody, not even Buck, has found any trail of her. It's like she vanished into thin air. I'm going to go looking for her, Walter." Ted said.
"Now Ted we've discussed this time and again. If no one else has found her why do you think you can find her?" Walter asked.
"Well, someone has to try." Ted replied.
"Well, we are trying. Teaspoon has sent messages to sheriffs far and wide. The Pony Express riders are still looking, especially Cody, and I'm going to have someone out there looking to. So there is no reason for you to just up and leave, too." Walter finished his letter and sealed the envelope. "I don't want my best clerk leaving. I need someone I can trust working at the bank while I'm stuck here. I'm having enough problems. I just bought a hotel, and I finally found a waitress. I just put an ad in the PEG the other day for a hotel clerk. So that I can get back to running the bank. That is after I get switched from being a saloon girl." Ted nodded his head. He understood where Mr. Simmons was coming from.
Walter had recently required Gavin's and Karen's ranch. He bought the hotel from Catherine who recently left town, and he also bought the boutique. Hopefully someone would buy it soon. Unfortunately, if Ted left, Walter would also have to look for someone to replace him. "So what is that letter?" Ted inquired.
"Walk with me to the post office," Walter stood up, "and I'll tell you."
Ted followed Walter out of the hotel, and on their way over there Walter explained to Ted that he was sending a letter to a private investigator in order for him to track down Jacy. It would be better if it was a private investigator instead of a law man who found her. After hearing that Ted decided not to leave town. He just hoped that the investigator would find her soon.
Ted and Walter greeted Blythe, and Walter gave his letter to Blythe and said, "Please see that this gets delivered immediately."
"Yes, it's important." Ted firmly stated.
"Well, may I ask what it is or is it private?" Blythe asked as she looked from Ted to Walter.
Ted also looked at Walter. "It's not personal. I'm hiring a private investigator to find Jacy." Walter replied.
"Good. I hope someone finds her, and she comes back. I won't believe that she's a horse thief. I wish she hadn't ran away. I know Teaspoon will clear her good name." Bythe truly believed that Jacy was innocent. She knew that Kid and Cody believed it, too. "But the rider that delivers this mochilla," Blythe began as she started putting the letter into the mochilla, "won't be in until this afternoon." Both Ted and Walter frowned. They wanted it sent right away.
"I heard that." Tyson walked in. He was missing the pretty petite girl, too. His sister wasn't as good a writer as Jacy. Jacy was a sweet pretty little girl that Tyson really admired and liked. "I'll take the mail and deliver it. You can tell Ike that I took his run, and he can take mine tomorrow."
"That's great!" Walter cheerfully said. "Thanks son." Walter slapped Tyson on the shoulder.
Blythe handed Tyson the mochilla, and he dismissed himself. He mounted Express and took off west with the mochilla and Walter's letter.
