APRIL 30, 1861
Walter was happy that the J & J Railroad had made Dreamville one of it's stops. That meant that they would be getting more business. And more business meant more money. And making money was what Walter lived for because after all he was a business man.
Sitting at his desk Walter was going over the bank records. He erased a figure and wrote in another. He was planning his short-time goal of success, but he was having a hard time concentrating on his affairs when his mind kept drifting back to the railroad station. It was amazing that Tally was the railroad owner. Who would have thought it? That youngin' owning a railroad. Of course he had talked with Tally, actually he should start remembering to call him Jed because after all, it's his real name. He had found out that Jed had inherited the railroad from his mother after she had passed away. Well that's one way to become rich quick, he thought.
He slammed the book shut. He just couldn't concentrate on it any longer. Besides it was almost time to meet Jed for lunch. It was a business lunch meeting. They would be discussing Jed opening a bank account that would have a considerable large amount of money deposited into it. He also wanted to discuss what Jed had in mind with his horse arena. He hoped whatever it was that it would mean more business for him. Leaving his office, he told Ted that he would be back later to relieve him for lunch.
Walking over to the Silver Spoon, Walter waved to friends as he saw them going in and out of buildings. He really liked this town. It was growing and soon they would even have a church. A lot of folks had been waiting a very long time for a place to worship God. The preacher in town was very likeable. That was good. He wondered when they would start construction on the church.
He walked into the Silver Spoon. He was a little early so he talked with Charity for a little bit while waiting on Jed. "Well, Charity what do you think of the new train station in town?"
"I like it. It will probably bring in more business. Which means more money for me." Charity replied.
"I like the way you think." Walter smiled at the lovely waitress. He saw Jed enter, so he waved him over.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Simmons, Charity." Jed greeted them as he joined Walter at the table. Charity said hello.
"Please, call me Walter. And is it alright if I call you Jed?" Walter smiled across the table at Jed.
"That's fine by me, Walter. I have the special, Charity." Jed beamed a smile her way.
"Make that two." Walter said.
They discussed business over lunch, and when Walter left he was as happy as a lark. Jed would be moving all his funds into Walter's bank. Jed intended to make Dreamville the center of his business.
