ARRIVING HOME

FEBRUARY 14, 1860

Ted helped Melissa climb aboard the buggy. It was a very beautiful evening with the stars twinkling. They were both thinking that it would have been the perfect date if only they had their perfect partner. To Melissa that would have been Michael and for Ted, well, his dream girl was still out there somewhere, at least he hoped so. They made small talk on the way home. Ted stopped in front of the newspaper office and helped Melissa down. He then escorted her to the door of her home.

Melissa was sorry to see the evening end. If the dance had lasted a little while longer maybe Michael would have asked her to dance, but probably not. He had a date for the evening. Oh well . . . boys who needs them anyway.

Ted told Melissa that he had a fun night, and Melissa agreed with him. She went inside and Ted took the buggy and horse back to the livery stable. Maybe someday he would meet his perfect love, but at least he had some fun tonight. That Melissa was a wonderful sweet girl. He hoped that Jimmy wouldnt break her heart. She was too young to be disillusioned by love already. It was sweet of her to ask Jimmy to see her sister home while she had accompanied him back to town after the dance.
