OCTOBER 1, 1860

Ted was in the boutique shop. He wanted to go to the costume party, but he wasn't sure what he wanted to go as. While thumbing through the clothes on the rack he wondered where Jacy was. If she was here, she probably would know what he should go as. He heard the bell ring above the door as someone entered. He looked up and saw Mr. Simmons.

"Good day, Miss Grace. Hello Ted!" Walter came walking up to the counter. "I heard there was going to be a costume party and that several people had been in to see you about making them some clothes to match who they intend on portraying." He watched as Grace nodded her head in agreement of what Walter was saying. "Melissa told me that you have a list of characters that Meghan gave you in case someone doesn't know what they want to be." Grace nodded again.

Grace handed the list to Mr. Simmons. She had met him on one other occasion in the jailhouse with her uncle. She didn't like him at all. Him and her uncle were discussing a situation about a runaway girl. Later on she had found out that they had been discussing Jacy, Cody's former girlfriend. Mr. Simmons didn't like the fact that her uncle was going to put a Wanted poster out on Jacy. They had got into a heated argument. Because of that Grace didn't like Mr. Simmons. Her uncle was only trying to do his job.

Ted watched Mr. Simmons and Grace. She seemed not to like Mr. Simmons much. She didn't greet him with a smile on her face like she had done with him when he had introduced himself earlier.

Walter looked over the list. For some reason that he didn't understand Grace never had a smile on her face whenever he was around her.

"Hello, Mr. Simmons." Ted walked over and greeted him warmly.

"How many times do I have to tell you to call me Walter?" Walter good-naturally asked.

Ted just shook his head. For the life of him he couldn't think of Walter as anything other than his boss, so he couldn't call him by his first name, not even when they weren't in the bank.

"Have you decided what you're going to be for the party, yet?" Walter inquired.

Ted replied, "No, I haven't decided."

Walter looked at the list again. "Have you looked at this list?"

"No, what list?" Curiously Ted tried to see what was written on the paper that Walter was looking at.

"Here, see this." Walter put his finger under some words, and Ted read Street Musicians. "What do you think? I can play my fiddle and you can play your flute." Ted liked the idea and said so. "Grace could you make each of us a street musician costume."

"Sure, I can do that." Grace answered.

While discussing their costumes Desiree walked in. "Hello Ted, Walter, Grace," she said as she walked up to them. "I saw you in here and was wondering what you were up to." Her last sentence was directed to Walter.

"Grace is going to make us costumes for the party Meg and Luke are having." Walter replied. "By the way Desiree I was going to ask you if you would like to be my date for the party?"

"Sure, Id like that, but I dont know what to wear." Desiree hadnt thought much about the party since she had read the announcement in the paper because she hadnt planned on going. She hated going to special occasions alone but now that Walter had asked her she felt excited about going.

Walter pulled Ted aside, away from the ladies, and discussed something with him. "Desiree how about going as a Street Singer. Ted and I are going as Street Musicians. You can accompany us, while we play our music, you can sing." Walter suggested as him and Ted rejoined the lovely ladies.

Desiree agreed, and after being measured for their costumes, Walter invited Desiree to have supper with him at the hotel, and she accepted. Ted on the other hand decided to stop by the sheriffs office before having supper. He wanted to see if Sheriff Teaspoon had any leads on the whereabouts of the former newspaper owner, Jacy.
