MARCH 11, 1860
Ted stopped in front of the PEG as Melissa came riding up and jumped off her horse. She tied Braids to the hitching post and said, "Hi Ted, how are you?"
Ted answered, "Im fine."
"You dont look like youre fine. You look glum. Do you want to talk about it? Come on, sit down and tell me whats bothering you. Maybe I can help." Melissa sat down on the steps, and Ted joined her.
"I dont think anybody can help."
"Why not?"
"Im just a little . . . a little lonely." He whispered.
"Oh . . . I know what you need." Melissa smiled brightly at Ted.
"You do?" Surprised that she had an answer when he couldnt think of anything himself.
"Yeah! You need a hobby."
"A hobby?"
"Yeah, what do you like to do?"
"I dont know."
"Aw come on, you must like to do something." Melissa pressed.
"I like to read, but that is a lonely hobby." Ted looked gloomier.
"Yeah, youre right about that. Isnt there anything else you like to do? Do you like to fish? I can go fishing with ya. I love to fish."
"I dont have the knack for it."
"I could teach ya if you would like to learn?"
"Does Jacy fish?" Maybe if Melissa taught him to fish then he could ask Jacy to go fishing with him sometime.
Noticing his lack of interest, Melissa replied, "Yeah, shes been learning. Ive been teaching her."
"Ok so when can we start?" Ted interest piqued some.
"Now if you like?" Ted nodded his head. "Ill go get the fishing poles. Wait here." Melissa retrieved the poles, and they rode out of town on Braids. Ted wasnt as nervous about riding Braids as he had been because he was getting used to it since he had been riding with Jacy.
