MARCH 25, 1860
Daniel and Serena entered the jailhouse and overheard Teaspoon and Caller Bob discussing that they needed to do some special event for Easter coming soon. Daniel and Serena gave each other a conspiratorial smile. All four of them exchanged hellos, and then Daniel told them why they were there.
"Teaspoon, I think I have the answer to your problem." Daniel began.
Teaspoon glanced at Caller Bob. "My problem?"
"Yeah, youre looking for a special event for Easter, and we just happen to have one." He replied. Intrigued Teaspoon and Caller Bob didnt say a word. They were waiting for Daniel to explain. "Our little Meg is getting married," he paused to let it sink in.
Teaspoon was the first to recover. "Congratulations!" He came around and shook Daniels hand.
Caller Bob stepped over to Serena. "Congratulations! Who is the lucky fella?"
"Its Luke," Serena replied.
Daniel told them about the surprise engagement party that him and Serena were planning, and that they could make it for Easter. They all discussed the plans and to disguise the goings on, they decided a picnic during the day would be great and then have the party that evening.
Melissa and Jacy were coming into the jailhouse and they heard their plans for Easter. "Can we help?" Melissa inquired as she entered. The foursome looked stunned. In all their excitement they had forgot to shut the door. Daniel quickly went to the door, looked out to make sure no one else was around, and shut it. "Jacy is the Event Coordinator. We can put a great article in the paper about it." That was the last thing that Daniel wanted. It was suppose to be a surprise. So Melissa and Jacy were sworn to secrecy, no articles about the engagement party. But they could write about the picnic. Everybody else who would be invited to the party would have to be sworn to secrecy, too.
Jacy and Melissa left after discussing the details of the picnic and engagement party. They had plumb forgot why they had gone to the jailhouse in the first place. "This is going to be fun. Maybe Jimmy will ask you to the picnic." Melissa eyes lit up at the prospect of Jacy and Jimmy going on a real date.
"Well, I dont know about that."
"I do. Im sure he will ask you." Melissa prattled on about the picnic the rest of the day, so that Jacy began to think that it would be nice if Mr. Hickok did ask her to the picnic.
