AUGUST 3, 1860
Sheriff Teaspoon decided to pay a visit to the post office. About midmorning Blythe had been over to see him. She was concerned about Charlie because he should have made his deliver to the post office by now.
"Howdy Teaspoon," Cody called out to him as he came around from behind the counter. Walking up to Teaspoon, he asked, "Can I help you with anything?"
"No, I came in to see if Charlies brought the mail yet." Teaspoon replied.
Upon hearing Cody call out Teaspoons name, Blythe came out of the post office room to join them. She was hoping that Teaspoon had heard something about Charlie. "No, he hasnt."
Teaspoon saw the worried expression on Blythes face. "Dont worry, Im sure hes ok. Maybe the other Pony Express rider was late getting in, so that put Charlie behind."
Blythe nodded, but still she was depressed that Charlie wasnt in yet. She turned around and went back to her post.
Blythe had become friends with Charlie ever since they had started meeting. Every morning before the store and post office would open, Blythe would stand out on the boardwalk and soak in the fresh air. Also every morning Charlie would come out of the Silver Spoon with an apple in his hand and eat it before opening up. He would always wave to Blythe and she in return would wave back. Blythe didnt have many friends in Dreamville. Although she liked most of the people in Dreamville, Kid and Charlie where her two favorites.
Just then Charlie came walking in. Cody smirked, and Teaspoon turned around to see a muddy but in a good physical condition, Charlie. "What happen to you?" Teaspoon inquired.
"I got thrown. Firecracker got spooked, and she threw me right into a mud hole. I tried to clean up some before coming on in, but I didnt do a very good job of it." Charlie brushed at his clothes once again, but it didnt do any good. Charlie had taken to Firecracker the first day he had settled in at the station. The fellas had warned him that she was a very timid animal, but Charlie liked her and wouldnt ride any other horse there.
"Well, I know someone who has been frettin about ya." Cody shook his head towards the post office room.
"I better get this bag to Blythe. Excuse me." Charlie left Cody and Teaspoon grinning like Cheshire cats, and he went in to relieve Blythes mind.
