JUNE 25, 1860
Teaspoon and Caller Bob were discussing Lara’s article at the Silver Spoon. Caller Bob had invited the sheriff to lunch. "No one has switched jobs with anyone yet. It doesn’t look like we’re going to get much money out of this adventure. We might have to think of something else in order to build a church." Caller Bob said.
"Just give it a little more time, Bob. I’m sure someone will do it." Teaspoon encouraged.
At that moment Melissa came up to the table. "Hi Caller Bob, I want some people to change jobs."
Teaspoon chuckled, "See what I mean."
Melissa wasn’t sure what they were talking about, but she decided to ignore it. She handed Caller Bob the paper, and after reading it, he smiled and said, "Are you sure about this?" Melissa nodded. "Alright, I’ll write up the cards and give them to their perspective owners."
"When?" Melissa asked.
"I’ll give them out this afternoon." Caller Bob smiled at Melissa, and she nodded and then left.
As Teaspoon and Caller Bob finished their meals, Jesse came in. He had went to the jailhouse first, but not finding Teaspoon he exited the place, and Rose had seen him. She told Jesse that Teaspoon was at the restaurant with Caller Bob. He thanked her and went to the Silver Spoon.
"Jesse!" Teaspoon called out, and as Jesse made his way to the table, Teaspoon asked, "What are you doing here, lad?"
"Well, I was going to go see Caller Bob at the ranch, but Cody told me that he was at the jailhouse with you." Jesse answered.
"What did you need to see me about?" Caller Bob asked. Jesse handed him a note.
"We’re picking up." Caller Bob handed the note to Teaspoon. "This could be very interesting." Teaspoon agreed as he handed the note back to Caller Bob. "I’ll try to let them know by this afternoon." He informed Jesse. Jesse said goodbye and left.
"I wonder if Caller Bob is home?" Jacy said aloud as she finished writing her note. She wanted Cody to have another job, one closer to her.
"No, he’s at the Silver Spoon." Melissa replied as she looked up at Jacy from her homework.
"Oh really," Jacy collected her paper and said, "Melissa, I’m going out for a few minutes. You look after things, especially Smoke. Lately Smoke had been putting his nose into everything. One day when Jacy came home she almost blew her top. Smoke had things all over the kitchen floor. He could have been mistaken for a panda bear with all the flour on him.
Jacy met Teaspoon and Caller Bob coming out of the restaurant, and they both wished her a good afternoon. "Caller Bob I have something for you." She handed him her paper. "It’s ok, isn’t it?"
"Oh sure, It’s fine." Caller Bob smiled at her. "I’ll make sure they get it this afternoon. Well, Teaspoon, I have some work to do." He smiled at Teaspoon and Jacy as he folded the note and added it to the other ones in his pocket. "Good day, Miss Jacy." He tipped his black cowboy hat to her, and then he walked to his horse, Crossfire. Mounting up in front of the jailhouse he watched as Teaspoon escorted Jacy across the street to the Pony Express Gazette. He galloped off home to work on the Gift Cards.
After walking Jacy home, Teaspoon went over to his office. As he walked over there, he wondered who Jacy wanted to switch jobs. He wasn’t sure, but he thought it might be Cody, but he couldn’t figure who she would want him to change jobs with. He plopped down in his chair and before too long he was snoozing.
