JUNE 17, 1861
Teaspoon helped Rachel down from the
buckboard and escorted her into the church. Rachel looked stunning in her beautiful Sunday
dress, and Teaspoon looked quite handsome with his church-going suit on.
Teaspoon thought, they hadn't been this
dressed up since April at Lilly and Javier's wedding. The thought of a wedding made him
think of Grace's wedding. He wished Grace hadn't got pregnant. He truly thought that she
was too young to start a family already. He felt it was his fault. He should have spent
more time with her, talked to her about things. He should have looked after her more.
As they reached the top step, Reverend Sean
greeted them, and then Teaspoon followed Rachel inside. They sat down to wait for the
sermon. The church was very nice, and there were bibles in the cubbyholes of the pews.
Teaspoon took one out and stated flipping through it in order to distract his mind from
the upcoming nuptials. He was still reading when the reverend started welcoming everybody
to the newly opened church.
Teaspoon looked around and smiled when he
saw that most of his riders were here. His smile disappeared when he saw Grace sitting
with Charlie. He felt as though he had failed. Oh well, there wasn't anything he could do
to change it, so he would just have to start over, meaning that when Grace's child was
born, he would make sure that he looked after her or him a lot better than he had with
Grace.
Rachel noticed that most of the riders were
in attendance, too, but she also saw that Jimmy wasn't there. She was worried about him
and Cody. She was afraid that those two might get into a fight. She knew that Cody was
steaming over the fact that Jacy was taking care of Jimmy. She turned her attention back
to the reverend.
Lee also noticed that Jimmy didn't show up
for church. She was very disappointed. She wish she knew how things were going. Had Jimmy
figured out why Jacy wanted him instead of Cody? Well,
she kind of expected that if Jacy was trying to steal him from her that she wouldnt
want him to come to church. He was still
pretending to have amnesia, and Jacy wouldnt want him to remember anything yet.
After the sermon was over, Rachel asked
Teaspoon to drive her by Jacy's home. She wanted to see how Jimmy was getting along. She
also wondered why they hadn't attended church. Jimmy might have a memory loss, but he
wasn't crippled. Unfortunately, when they arrived, Jacy and Jimmy weren't there. Tally
informed them that they were out for a ride.
