MARCH 1, 1861

These past two weeks, Teaspoon had spread the word about the meeting to all of those who were square dancers. And now it was time for the meeting, so he swung up onto Banter and headed for Caller Bob's barn where the meeting was to be held. Rachel and the boys should already be on their way out there.

Teaspoon had just had supper with Grace and escorted her back to her boutique. He loved his niece very much. She was a pretty good square dancer, and she would probably take classes when they decided to start another one, but until she graduated from class she couldn't be a member of the club. Charlie who was more experienced could and would join the club.

After everybody arrived Teaspoon got the crowd quieted for Caller Bob, Caller Bob, the mayor, would preside over club meetings until officers were elected. He was seated at a table in the front and away from the others. Where Teaspoon joined him after getting the children, Melissa, Michael and Jesse quieted down.

"We need to nominate some officers for the club this evening, and we also need to name our club. Let's start with the most easiest first. Jacy had a suggestion box sitting in front of the PEG office for a month or so, and I hope a lot of you put in names for our club." Caller Bob paused as he watched Teaspoon open the box and pull out the papers. Caller Bob looked over the papers with Teaspoon.

Directing his gaze back to the audience, he continued, "We have several names here for the club, and they all look very good, so we are going to have a vote, a secret vote to name our club. I'm going to read to you the names I have, and you take a piece of paper and pencil," that Caller Bob had the foresight to put on their tables, "and write down your favorite name for the club. Alright now here's the names that we have, Dreamville Squares, Dreamville Dancers, Starshine Squares, and Star Squares." He watched as everybody grabbed a piece of paper and began to write. "Teaspoon you choose one, too. And so will I." Caller Bob handed Teaspoon a piece of paper and pencil that he had sitting in front of him.

As Teaspoon dropped his ballot into the box, he said, "I'll go around and pick up the votes." He held the box out for Caller Bob to drop his paper into, too, and then he went around the room collecting the ballots. As he sat back down at his table Teaspoon planted the box in front of Caller Bob. They tallied the votes and then Caller Bob announced the name of the new club. "It looks like we will be calling ourselves the Dreamville Dancers Club." He paused to let the members digest the new name of their club.

"Alright now on to elections. "Who would like to run for President of the club? The President will have to plan special dances, coordinate the decorations and the food, and have leadership abilities to preside over meetings. The Vice President will have to be the President's right hand man or woman as the case may be and help the President with his or her duties. The Secretary will have to record all meetings, and the Treasurer will have to keep a record of our club's financial status besides collecting the membership fees that which we will have to decide on tonight. We need membership fees in order to fund our special dances. Now do I have any nominations for any of these positions?"

She was debating with herself. Should she be the President? Lots of thoughts went through her head. What if she became President, and Jimmy became Vice President? Her and him could work closely together. "I'll run for President." She commented with a smirk at Jimmy.

"Alright we have Jacy running for President. Does anybody else want to run for President?"

"Well if we don't have anybody to run for President than Jacy will win hands down." Caller Bob looked around the room to see if anyone wanted to dispute Jacy being the President. "Alright all in favor of Jacy being President say aye." All the occupants unanimously said aye. Alright who would like to be the Vice President?"

No one spoke up, but they all looked at each other to see if anyone would. "I nominate Jimmy." She said. Everybody looked surprised that Jacy had nominated Jimmy. Seeing everybody's expression Jacy quickly added for their benefit, "I think Jimmy would make a good Vice President. I'm sure he could keep people in line if we needed it. He's quick with a gun." She smiled and winked hoping the others would think it was a joke, even though she really wanted Jimmy to be the Vice President.

"That's not a bad idea." Teaspoon smiled at Jacy as he thought Jimmy could use some more responsibilities. It might help tame him down some. "Whatta you say Jimmy?"

Jimmy's boyish grin developed on his face. "I'll do it."

"Good, all in favor of Jimmy being Vice President say aye." Everybody said aye, so Teaspoon continued, "Alright now who wants to be Secretary." For a few seconds nobody spoke, and Teaspoon got tired of the silence and said, "All it entails is keeping a written record of our meetings."

"I'll do it Teaspoon." Caly said as she looked at Buck to see his response. Buck smiled back at her thinking that it was a good idea for Caly to be the Secretary.

"Ok, all in favor." Teaspoon said, "Aye!" And then the others chorused in with ayes. "Now all we need is a Treasurer."

When no one volunteered for it, Walter did. He was already the Treasurer for the Town Council. Everybody voted for him, and then all the officers were elected.

"Now one more thing, how much should we charge for membership dues? I was thinking a dollar a month. What do you all think?" Caller Bob asked.

A lot of the people nodded their heads in agreement. "It sounds good to me." Teaspoon said. "All in favor say aye." There was a loud reply. "Anybody opposed?" No one said a word. And so the motion was carried to charge a dollar for membership each month.

"We've accomplished a lot in our first club meeting, and if no one has any objections I think we should adjourn for this evening." Caller Bob suggested and Teaspoon second the motion, and everybody agreed.

Everybody started standing up and filtering out of the barn while talking with their friends or family. Teaspoon noticed Caly and Buck still sitting and made his way over to them. "She's writting done everything that took place here at the meeting." Buck explained. Teaspoon smiled and nodded.

"All finished." Caly said as she stood up.

"Now may I escort you home?" Buck inquired.

"Yes, you may. Goodnight sheriff, goodnight Caller Bob," The two men nodded and told her goodnight as she left with Buck.
