DECEMBER 9, 1860
Tally walked into the general store and looked around. Christmas was just a few weeks away. He wanted to get Samantha a present, but he wasn't quite sure what to get her and how she would react from receiving a present from him. So he decided he would purchase something for her, and then he would give it to her anonymously.
While looking at everything the store had to offer, he thought about Samantha and Jacy. Jacy had been acting strange ever since she had come back. Her moods seemed to change by the minute. Sometimes she would be happy to see him and other times it was like he was a plague and she couldn't get as far away from him as she could. As for Samantha, her and Jacy didn't seem to be getting along at all, and they used to be best friends. He was baffled by these strange events but couldn't figure out why Jacy was acting differently.
Ted entered the store and started looking around the shop. He didn't have anybody to buy a Christmas present for. He wished Jacy was his girl and then he would have someone that he could choose a present for. He looked at the necklaces and saw the ones with letters on them. There was one 'J' necklace left. He thought about buying it just to give it to Jacy in friendship.
Tally watched Ted out of the corner of his eye. Anyone could tell that Ted liked Jacy. He felt sorry for Ted because her and Cody were a couple. Ted was a likeable fellow, but then again so was Cody. Cody and Jacy had seemed to be good for each other. That was before she had left, but ever since she had been back, it seemed to Tally that Cody was more in love with Jacy than she was with him. He just couldn't figure out why, and he wondered why Jacy was spending so much time at the Silver Spoon. She never used to eat in the restaurant so much.
After a few minutes Ted decided against it. He wasn't sure if it would be proper or not. He let go of the necklace and left. Tally walked over to where Ted had been standing. He saw the 'J' necklace swinging back and forth. Poor fella, Tally thought. He would have to seek Ted out and become his friend. He knew Ted didn't have too many friends.
Simon came out from the backroom and walked over to Tally. "May I help you."
Tally looked down at the necklaces once again after smiling at Simon. He picked up the 'S' necklace and said, "Yes, I would like to purchase this and one of your most expensive bottles of cologne."
"Right this way, Mr. Wagons." Simon showed him to the cologne area. "This is the most expensive one we carry and all the ladies seem to like it." He held up a bottle called Starmist!
"I'll take it." Tally walked over to the counter carrying the necklace, and Simon brought the cologne over.
Tally paid for the two items and thanked Simon. Then he pocketed them and went back to work.
