DECEMBER 8, 1861

While Susan’s gift was more than most could ever give, she didn’t consider the baby growing inside her as a wedding gift for her childhood friend and his fiance. In addition to giving her child to Jimmy and Lee to raise, she was going to help Rachel make some curtains for the house that the riders were building for them, so it was only natural that she go with Rachel to pick out the material. Just as they were paying and getting ready to leave, Lilly walked in. “Hello, Lilly, how are you doing?”

“I’m doing a lot better now, thank you. I think the children have helped out a lot.” Lilly smiled. Then she saw the material that Susan and Rachel had. “Oh that’s beautiful!”

“Thank you. We’re going to make Lee and Jimmy some curtains with it.” Rachel said.

“Well, I was going to make some bed sheets and blankets for them. Maybe we can bring that material over here, and I can get some material to match it so that their curtains can go with the sheets and blankets.”

“That’s a wonderful idea!” Susan exclaimed. The three women went over to the fabrics and began to plan the colors of the master bedroom.

Kathleen came in to get her supplies and talked with the women. She told them that she had bought some dishes for them when she got Caly and Buck’s wedding gift. That way she didn’t have to come back for another wedding gift. They all agreed that was a smart idea. Kathleen also pointed out that it wouldn’t matter if someone else got them bed sheets because it was a good idea to have more than one set.

Luke came in and walked up to the counter, “Simon, I’d like to open up a credit account for Jimmy and Lee as a wedding present. It will be from, Meg, Daniel, Serena, and myself.”

Simon said, “That’s a great idea, Luke. And Aslan and I will add to it. Store Credit is something that they can’t have too much of.”

After telling Simon what she had, Lilly walked out of the store and saw her children playing with the other children in town.  She looked down and saw Danny carving something out of wood. “Whatcha got there?”

“I’m making a statue of a bride and groom with Mr. Jimmy and Miss Lee’s Wedding Date on it.  It’s going to be from Brianna, Brother Sean and myself.”

“Oh that’s a great idea! I wish someone would have thought of that for my wedding.”  Lilly smiled.

“Thank you.”  Danny said.

Lilly sat down beside Danny and watched the children play for another half hour before going home to start on dinner and having the children start on their homework.
