DECEMBER 1, 1861

Jedidiah was furious when he heard that Stone had escaped and that Jewel had went with him. He suspected foul play and wasn't content to have anyone blaming his sister for the break out. Stone had tricked her or was using her. He was the first to volunteer to be part of the posse when Teaspoon rode out. Along with him and Sheriff Teaspoon, Buck and Ike went with them. Buck was a great tracker, and it didn't take long for him to find the trail.

Stone figured they were far enough away from town to hole up for a little while, so he brought Jewel out of the hypnotic state he had put her in. She was quite confused when she saw where they were. "What? How, how did we get here?"

"Don't you remember darling, you helped me escaped, so we could be together always." He was so close to her that he the sweet smell from her hair drifted into his nostrils. He was going to kiss her, but she pulled away from him.

"No, I didn't. I couldn't. I wouldn't let you out of jail." Realization dawned on her, "You did hypnotized me. You are guilty. You put Daniel in a trance and had him get rid of the babies. YOU MONSTER!!!!

"I did it for you! You hated them for telling Lee that she was pregnant. I thought you would like to get revenge." Stone yelled.

"No! I would never have wanted Meg and Daniel to lose their babies. And I didn't want Meg's home to burn down." She yelled back at him.

He calmed down and said, "Alright, well, we can't do anything about it now. It's done and past. We have to think about our future now."

"Our future! OUR FUTURE!! There is no future for us! I don't want to be near you." She turned her back on him. She was angry and furious that he had made her help him escape. Her track record wasn't spotless as it was, and now everybody in town would think that she did it because she wanted to. She wondered what her family would think. She was getting along with all of them, even Jacy. Jacy had somewhat forgave her for her past mistakes, but after this, well, she couldn't blame her if she never wanted to see her again.

"Look it will be alright Jewel. We'll go somewhere where no one knows us, and we'll start all over again. It will be wonderful you'll see." Stone waited for her to say something.

Before answering, she silently counted to ten to calm down. She began to think things through. If she kept disagreeing with him, he might decide to do something irrational like kill her if she didn't obey him. She knew she couldn't trust him. And look what he had hypnotized Daniel to do. If he didn't kill her, he might hypnotize her again. She definitely didn't want that. She would have to play along with him. Let him think that he had won her over. Then when the best opportunity came, she could then escape and go back home. She just hoped that there would be a home to go to.

She turned around and looked at him. "Where we'll we go?"

"Farther west. There's lots of territory out there where no one knows us."

"What will we do?"

"I can do almost anything. I'll get a job, and we'll have a nice little home of our own. You'll see. I'll take care of everything. I'll take care of you. Anything you want I'll get it for you. You'll see we'll be happy. We will."

When he said that he would get her anything she wanted, she thought the only thing she wanted was her family.
