AT THE VALENTINE'S DANCE! FEBRUARY 14, 1860 |
| They
found a place to sit and waited for the music to begin. As it started, Steven stood and
said, "May I have this dance?" Smiling, Prudence said, "Sure," and took his hand. As they danced, they laughed and talked about raising their children alone. As the third song ended, Prudence said, "I think I better sit this one out." Steven replied, "Okay, I better act fast if I am going to dance with my own daughter." He escorted her back to the table. He made sure she was okay before he left. Then he headed over to see if he could get a dance with Caly. As he approached Caly, she saw him and smiled. He saw her turn to the young man who was her dance partner for that song and say something. As the song ended, she walked over to him saying, "Hello Pa." He smiled at her and said, "You look beautiful tonight. Just like your mother." Caly smiled and said, "Thank you." "May I have the honor of this dance?" Caly smiled and said, "Of course, Pa. I always have time to dance with you." They danced and laughed. When the song ended, Steven walked her back to Buck. She willingly took Buck's arm and watched her father return to his date. He walked back over to Prudence and said, "I have been asked to play with the band. Do you mind? It won't be for long just a few songs." Prudence said, "No, that's fine. Go on I would love to hear you play." Steven nodded, walked over to the band, took the guitar from Joshua, and played a few songs while Caller Bob sang. Then Steven went back to his date for the night. After sitting out a few songs, Prudence and Steven danced to the last song. Steven said, "Thank you for coming tonight." Prudence smiled and nodded saying, "You're welcome and thank you for asking me." Steven nodded. |
