SEPTEMEBER 20, 1861

The woman held the baby in her arms. He had finally gone to sleep.  Her companion got off the train and held out a hand for her to take as she stepped off the train. They headed straight for the doctor's office. Meg and Serena were swinging Grant and Liz on the porch swing. Both the twins were sitting up and laughing at their father who was making funny faces at them.

As the couple made their way to the house, Luke stopped and stared at them. "Mr. Saunders?" The man asked.

Luke got a feeling in the pit of his stomach and hoped that he was right when he answered, "Yes, you brought me some news?"

"Yes, sir, I was wondering if you could identify this child."

Serena got up and went over to find the young lady holding a baby boy. "That's DJ she said as she gave Luke his daughter."

She took DJ from the lady and looked at the couple, "How did you get my son?"

"Well, ma'am, we found him with this couple that said they had adopted him from some man. The man didn't give his name or any information. He just handed the baby over to them. We had been checking all the houses and the wagons going north, south, west and east for a thousand miles, and we finally came upon this couple and my daughter spotted the blue blanket that he was wrapped in with the initials on it, so she asked them about the baby. They handed the baby over without any trouble, and here we are.”

"Serena, this is one of the Pinkertons I had hired.” Luke informed her.

"And this is my daughter, we thought that once we found the babies, we would need some help with them so she tagged along since we weren't expecting any shooting or anything."

"They seemed to have taken good care of him though if that helps to ease your worries. I can't imagine what you have been through," the young woman said.

“If you follow me over to the bank, I’ll pay you for your services.” Luke said. The detective nodded, and they went over to the bank.
