FEBRUARY 5, 1860
As Serena stepped out onto the porch of the clinic, she smiled as she looked around the town. When she saw Caly come riding into town, she called her name, "Caly can you come here, please?" Caly turned her head in the direction of the voice calling her name. She smiled as she realized it was Serena.
" Hello Serena. Did you call me?" She rode over to her.
Serena smiled as she watched Caly. Remembering all the times Caly had been in her husbands office for one thing or another. Caly dismounted and joined Serena on the porch. Brushing the dust from her pants saying, "What did you want me for?"
Serena said, "I was wondering if you could tell me what it is like to be a rancher." Caly nodded as she sat on the railing.
Smiling she said, "Before dawn you cheek the herd and then you feed them. Then you have to round up the strays and depending on the day you gather the fattest ones and take them to market for slaughter. I have never done that myself, but from what father says its not a pretty site. He does come home with lots of meat and a good profit. Its not an easy life as a rancher, but if you like being outside its a great one." Sitting back she continued, "Does that answer all your questions, Serena?"
Serena nods from where she was sitting and said, "Yes it does. Thank you."
Standing up Caly says, "I better get back to help out. I'll see you later." Serena nods and watches her mount up and ride off towards home. Smiling as she turned to go into the house thinking that girl is going to be hard to tame, shaking her head.
