JUNE 16, 1861
Sean finally put down his pen. He had spent
days trying to get the sermon for the first Sunday in the new church building perfect. The
accident that had left his daughter with a broken arm and her best friend a broken leg had
been a huge distraction. The girls were
milking it for everything. If he didn't know any better he would think they had two little
matchmakers on their hands. Every time one would call out the other one would too, and
Destiny and Sean kept bumping into each other, quite literally on a couple of occasions.
Brianna knew that her dad was working hard
and that he was nervous about the sermon tomorrow, so she told him to try out the sermon
on her, Miss Destiny and Jemima first. Sean agreed but only after the girls promised that
they would still listen in church tomorrow. If he saw them not listening and acting up, he
would call their names out in front of everyone. Brianna told Jemima that her dad would do
it, too, because he had done it a couple of times where they used to live.
Destiny sat between the two girls as they
listened to Sean practice his sermon. She watched the girls rub the many bruises they had
gotten from the accident at the school. Looking at the girl on her left, Brianna had her
arm in a sling to protect the cast from getting bumped. She had a concussion and many
cuts, bumps, and bruises, but she seemed to be healing well.
Looking over to her right at her own
daughter, Jemima had a cast on her leg. She also had a concussion and many cuts, bumps,
and bruises too. She was also healing fast, but then she always did from normal childhood
accidents. With a sigh of relief, Destiny was grateful that the accident had happened with
only a few days left in school before they got out for the summer.
Miss Beaudreaux had come by to see the
girls, and she was glad that they were ok. Destiny was happy that both girls had passed
and wouldn't miss anything that important, and she was grateful that the girls would be
back to their normal selves soon.
