JANUARY 15, 1860

Samantha had just been in town for a few weeks and the only person she knows is her brother, Justin. She was helping him out at the livery by tending to the horses. She loved animals. She got along better with animals then people. Although she does get along with brother, but lately something has been bothering him. But she just couldnt figure out what. Several times she had pressed him for information to what was wrong, but he had just told her that it was something that he had to work out for himself.

Working at the livery Samantha just didnt have enough work to keep her preoccupied, and Justin kept pushing her to go about town and meet some people. He had told her that most of the townsfolk were very nice. She needed more to do and to get her brother off her back, she decided to place an ad in the newspaper.

She knocked on the PEGs door and heard someone inside holler, come in. She opened the door and peered inside. She saw a young lady sitting at a desk with her back to the door.

Jacy turned around and saw a black-haired lady standing in the doorway. "Please come in." Jacy stood up and went to meet her visitor. "Hello, Im Jacyella. What can I do for you?"

"Im looking for the owner of the newspaper. Is he around?" Samantha eyes darted around the room.

"Im the owner." Jacy saw the surprise written all over Samanthas face. My grandpa owns the place, but hes out of town and Im running the place now. Im Jacy." Jacy held out her hand and Samantha shook it while telling Jacy her name. "Youre Justins sister, right?" Samantha nodded her head. "Hes mentioned you briefly to me. Ive been meaning to stop by to say hello to you, but Ive been swapped with the paper."

"Thats alright. I understand. The reason why Im here is because I want to place an ad in the paper, but Im not quite sure exactly how or what to say." Samantha said wondering if she should leave and wait to Jacys grandpa came back to run things. Surely this young lady hasnt had much experience and wouldnt be able to help her.

"Well, come on over, sit down and lets see what you have in mind." Jacy led Samantha to the desk where for the next hour they brainstormed.

As Samantha left she was quite satisfied with the results of her ad that Jacy had helped her with. Jacy may be young, but shes very competent. That was the impression Samantha had of the newspaper owner as she left the building. And also she treated Samantha just like a long lost friend even though they had just met. Maybe she had actually found someone she could call friend here in this little town of Dreamville.
