APRIL 22, 1860
Rachel had sent Buck, Ike, Kid and Lou hunting for some wild game for the picnic. Jesse wanted to go, so the riders made him promise to be very quiet. Jesse had never been hunting before so he was excited. Buck had been teaching him how to shoot a bow and arrow for weeks, and though he wasnt an expert yet, he was very good.
While stalking the wild game with the others Jesse heard a noise in the bushes, so he cautiously probed the bushes hoping to find something worthy of killing, but unfortunately he only found some pigeons. And they flew off before he could even raise his bow and arrow to shoot.
After a long day of hunting the riders came back with at least one thing to show for all their efforts. Buck had killed two Elk. Kid had killed a couple of deer. Ike had killed a turkey. Lou killed a couple of rabbits, and Jesse even killed a rabbit.
When the riders got back to the waystation, Rachel, Dev and Prudence were ready to cook the game. Prudence took the rabbits and made rabbit stew and baked the turkey. Dev took the elk and made elk strips like beef jerky, and Rachel took the deer and made steaks and roast out of it.
