SEPTEMEBER 14, 1861
Richard stood behind the bar thinking about
the orphans that had come to town.
He knew he could give one of the boys a good
home, but he couldn't live in the rooms above the saloon, but where would they live.
Just then Ted walked in. Then it hit him
where they could live. "Hey Ted."
Ted nodded "Yeah Richard?"
"I was hoping you'd stop in today. I
wanted to talk to you about something." Richard waited till he had given Ted a
sarsaparilla. "I was thinking about building living quarters onto the back of the
saloon."
Ted nodded. "May I ask why? You have a
room upstairs."
Richard smiled. "Yeah, but I was
thinking about adopting one of the boys from the orphan train. We can't live over the
saloon."
Ted nodded. "That's true. It's not a
place to raise a child. I don't have any objections. Thank you for considering your
partner."
Richard smiled. "Thanks. You're
welcome. How about another drink?"
Ted nodded and accepted another one. It had
been a very hot day, and Ted's mouth had been very dry, so he had quickly drank his first
sarsaparilla.
Richard set about drawing up the plans for
his new living quarters, so that he could get it built.
