MARCH 23, 1861
Rachel was in the hotel dining room with Teaspoon and Grace. They all three ordered lunch and then while they were waiting they began to discuss the rodeo. "I'm not sure what I can do for the rodeo, Uncle Teaspoon. I can't enter any of the events." Grace stated.
"You could help Rachel." Teaspoon replied.
"What's Rachel doing?" Grace directed her question to both of them.
"I'm going to make some food to sell at the rodeo. People will be hungry whether they're watching or entering the rodeo."
"I would like to do that. Do you mind Rachel?" Grace asked.
"That sounds like a good idea." Marta said.
Desiree had heard the conversation, too, as she was crossing the dining room. She was leaving, and Ted was taking over in the kitchen. "I wish I could do something like that, too, but I don't have a stove to cook anything on."
"Neither do I," Marta looked glum. She wanted to help some way with the rodeo, too, especially since she couldn't enter any of the events.
"Walter," Teaspoon called as he saw him about to leave the hotel.
Walter heard Teaspoon call to him, so he stopped, turned around and walked into the dining room. "Hello Teaspoon, Rachel, Grace."
"Walter what are you doing for the rodeo?" Teaspoon asked.
"Me . . . uhhh . . . well I've been helping Tally get his ranch fixed up for the rodeo.
"Why don't you let Marta and Desiree use the hotel's kitchen to cook up some vittles to sell at the rodeo to help the church?" Teaspoon inquired.
"Well, if they're out there selling food at the rodeo, whose going to be here cooking?"
"Now Walter you know that there won't be many people here in town. Most of them will be at the rodeo." Teaspoon said. Walter thought about and decided that Teaspoon was right.
"Alright, gals you can use the kitchen to fix some food for the rodeo. Well, I have some errands to run. You all have a good lunch." Walter left the hotel. As he left he came up with another idea for the rodeo.
