JANUARY 27, 1860

As Rachel was leaving the general store, she saw Erin coming towards her. Smiling Rachel said, "Hello Erin you look like you have something on your mind. Do you want to talk about it?"

Erin looks up and nods. "Mrs. Dunne can I ask you something?"

Rachel nodded and said, "Sure you can. Why don't we sit over here." As she went to the bench just outside the general store. Erin nodded and followed her over to the bench and sat down.

Thinking for a minute Erin asked, "Mrs. Dunne I have never been to a dance before. What do I wear? What does one do at a dance?"

Rachel smiled and said, "Oh sweetie, are you sure you want to talk to me about this and not your grandmother?"

Erin nodded and said, "Yes ma'am. Im afraid grandma would not want to answer my questions."

Rachel nodded. "The first thing you do is go through all your clothes and find the prettiest dress you have. You do your hair real nice. Then at the dance the boys ask you to dance. They are so sweet. They use their manners and treat you very nice. Some people even find love at a dance. Its a wonderful thing to attend. Does that answer your questions?"

Erin nodded and says, "Yes, it does. Thank you Mrs. Dunne." Erin stands and waves as she leaves.

Rachel shakes her head as she watches her leave and whispers to herself, "Kids." Then she heads back to the station.
