JANUARY 26, 1860

Prudence had been worried about Absalom. Sure he was a good kid, but he had no father figure. That had to have been hurting him. She had been trying to think of somebody who the boy looked up to that could be a good father figure for him. She finally decided that she would ask Teaspoon, after all he was the sheriff and he could make sure that Absalom stayed on the "right" side of the law.

"Sheriff Hunter."

"Mrs. Jeldin, what can I do for you?"

"I was wondering, well, um, Absalom has had no father figure in his life for a while now. I was wondering if you could help out with that. You know take him fishing, spend time with him, make sure he stays on the right side of the law." Prudence asked nervously.

Teaspoon thought a moment. In just a few short months, he had gone from no children to 11 young boys that he had to look after. He was enjoying being a father figure. "I think I can do that."

"Thank you. It'd mean a lot to him." And it'd mean a lot to me too. She thought as she walked out his office and toward the Freight Company.
