INTRODUCING SEAN & BRIANNA!

Sean Dennington stared out the window of the stagecoach, his mind swimming with so many things he could not pick only one out. The letter from the mayor of the small town he was heading to, the new posting as preacher in such a place, the effects of such a long move on little Brianna. He spared a glance at the sleeping child next to him. She really wasn't so small anymore, 9 years old now. Sean withdrew his hand from his pocket, the letter clutched tightly. It was ragged now, faded from being read so many times. He unfolded it but did not read, he had it memorized long ago.

Dear Rev. Dennington,

I thank you for your inquiry about the opening for a minister in our town. The sheriff, whom you mentioned, Teaspoon Hunter, did indeed state that he knew you and had told you about the job. With his high praise of you and your abilities, it is my pleasure to inform you that we would love for you to come and help us build our church here in town. No need to write back, just come. Enclosed are two tickets to Dreamville, for you and your daughter. We look forward to meeting you and hope you have a safe trip.

Sincerely,
Caller Bob
Mayor of Dreamville

P.S. Teaspoon wanted to add something. Don't worry none, Deveraux's the best we got. Go see Miss Destiny Jones at the boardinghouse, she'll have a room ready for you and the youngun. See you when you get here. I can't wait to see how big the girl's gotten since I last saw you and the missus in Amarillo.

Your old friend,
Teaspoon

"We'll be arriving in Dreamville in an hour folks, notice one hour to Dreamville." The stagecoach driver called from her spot high above the occupants. Sean shook his head in amazement, a woman stagecoach driver. Would wonders never cease? The hour passed quickly and before he knew it there he was, stepping out of the coach, highly polished boots, his best, stomping the dust down. There was no one to greet them. He had expected this. Brianna slipped her hand into her father's and squeezed tightly, Sean glanced down at her and smiled. "Shall we go see Teaspoon now?"

She nodded sleepily and leaned over to pick up her small bag. Sean stretched out his free hand. "Give that to your old Da, ya look like you’re about to fall over Lass." Obligingly she passed the bag to him and dropped her hand from his. "Now stay close, we don't need ya wondering off now. We'll get to the boardinghouse shortly. Then ya can sleep all ya like."

Sean made his way toward the sign that in bold black letters said all he needed to know. Jail. He pushed the door open and stepped inside, his Irish accent more noticeable as he laid eyes on his old friend for the first time in years.

"Teaspoon Hunter! As I live and breathe!"

The Sheriff's head shot up at the sound of his name being mangled by the newcomer. "Sean? Sean Dennington! I swear you ain't aged a day! Put yer bags down and come 'ere." No sooner than the bags had hit the floor than Sean was enveloped in the bigger man's bear hug.

"How have you been? And is this the munchkin?" Teaspoon knelt to Brianna's level. "Well, girl. If you ain't the spittin' image of yer ma!" He hugged her gently, not noticing her shy smile. "Well, let's get the two of you over to Destiny's boardinghouse and get you settled in. There's gonna be plenty of time for you to meet everyone later."

In due course, Sean and Brianna were in the boardinghouse room, Brianna settled into the bed. Sean found himself growing a bit bored. He penned a short note to his daughter and slipped out of the room. He found Destiny in the dining room of the house, tidying up for supper. "Mrs. Jones. If it's not an imposition, may I trouble you for a spot of tea?"

"Sure, Revered Dennington. I'll go put it on." Destiny smiled. She couldn't help but think that the new Rev. was cute. She also knew that when Jemima got home she would be happy to have a new friend.

When Jemima came home form school, she saw a girl about her age, on the porch swing with a doll in her hands. "Hi."

The girl looked up at her. "Hi."

"I'm Jemima. My Mamma owns this place."

"I'm Brianna, me and my Da just moved here. He's going to be the preacher."

Jemima's eyes lit up and with a smile she exclaimed, "You're staying? You mean it?"

Confused Brianna said, "Yes."

"Oh this is great! Are you staying here?" Brianna nodded. "Oh great we'll have so much fun! Hey I can take you to meet the schoolteacher. Just let me go put down my books and we'll go on to the school . . . hey Mamma!! She's staying! The little girl, Brianna said that she's staying now I'll have a friend again!"

"Jemima Honey, What about Melissa and Jesse and Michael?"

"Oh they're always together. Sometimes they forget to include me. It's not on purpose though. They're just a few years older than me is all. But Brianna and I can be best friends!"

Destiny laughed. "That's my daughter. Jemima this is Reverend. Sean Dennington, Brianna's father."

"Pleased to meet ya Sir. I'm going to put my books down and then I'm going to take Brianna to meet the other kids and Miss Boudreaux, our teacher, if that's ok with you, Revered Dennington."

"Yes, that's fine Lass." Sean said surprised.

Destiny shook her head in amazement. "Well that's one good thing to come out of you moving here to Dreamville. I haven't seen her this excited and happy since Rose and her family moved out to California."

"I'm glad that my little girl is making friends already."

After Jemima put her books in her room, she came back into the dinning room, "Revered Dennington, are you going to the Valentine's Dance?"

"Well, I'm not sure."

"It'd be a great way to meet people," Destiny said.

"Well, OK. Brianna and I will be there."

"Oh great!"

Jemima exclaimed and ran off to introduce her new friend to their teacher and the other kids.
