Michael and Melissa had agreed to meet at the picnic. Michael wanted to ride with Caly till they met up with Buck. Caly had decided to enter the horse race, so she rode Starbright. This was the first time she had rode Starbright, and he was happy for her. Caly did love her horse almost as much as she loved Buck. Michael thought as he watched her ride. They were to meet Buck at the edge of town.

They rode to the edge of town. As they neared it they saw Buck waiting for them. After exchanging hellos Michael said, "If it’s okay, I would like to ride ahead. I am meeting Melissa at the picnic."

Caly nodded and whispered, "Go on I'll be fine."

"Go on Michael. She will be fine." Buck replied.

Michael nodded and rode off towards the picnic. Riding in Michael saw Melissa talking with Jacy. Dismounting and tying Bear up with the other horses, he then walked over to where she stood.

Melissa looked up and smiled when she saw Michael coming towards her. As he reached her she said, "Glad to see you made it, Michael."

"Thanks. I wouldn't miss spending the day with you for anything." Michael replied.

Melissa excused herself from Jacy and went with Michael. "Are you going to join any of the races and games?" She asked.

Smiling Michael answered, "Yes I was planning on it. I was hoping you would agree to be my partner in the three-legged race."

Melissa nodded that she would be his partner, so they walked over to where the races where being held. They participated in all the races and games, but Michael and Melissa didn’t win the three-legged race. Two of their classmates won, Jesse and Rose. But in the sack race as Melissa crossed the finish line she heard someone say, "The winner is Melissa."

Melissa fell to the ground smiling and panting. She lay there not believing she had won the race. Michael congratulated her, and finally it sunk it and Melissa jumped up and hugged Michael saying, "I can't believe it. I’ve never won anything."
