AUGUST 7, 1860

Melissa screamed once again at her sister. "I didn't do it, honest, Jacy, I didn't."

Jacy sighed as she looked at the Cody's Song Contest article again. She dropped the paper to her side and glanced at Melissa and then Kimberly and then back to Melissa again.

Not liking the gloom and doom of her sister's face, Melissa admitted writing the song, but she still declined attaching Jacy's name to it. "I wouldn't do that to ya, Jacy. I wouldn't."

"I want to believe ya, Melissa, but who else could have done it if it wasn't you or Kimberly?" Jacy wanted to know, and all Melissa could do was shrug her shoulders.

"Well, we did step out and have breakfast. Maybe someone came in and changed it while we were out." Kimberly tried to defend both of them.

"Now who and why would they want to do that?" Jacy asked.

"Maybe it's your guardian angel trying to tell you that Jimmy is the one for you and not Cody." Melissa tried to lighten the mood, but as soon as she said it she wished she hadn't.

"That's ridiculous. Once Cody sees this." Jacy didn't finish the sentence for she wasn't quite sure what Cody would do, but she figured all hell would break loose once he saw it.

"Jacy, I'll just tell him that I wrote it." Melissa said.

"But what if he doesn't believe you?" Jacy was worried because of what had happened between Cody and Jimmy previously.

"Why wouldn't he believe me? Besides Kimberly can back me up. Right Kim?" Melissa was trying her best to make Jacy feel better.

"Of course I will." Kimberly replied.

Meanwhile over at the general store, Charity had just walked in carrying a newspaper. She gave Cody an alluring smile. Cody grinned back and walked up to her. "How may I help you today Miss Charity?"

"Oh well, I was thinking of buying a new bonnet. Could you help me pick one out that will make me look lovely?" Charity replied.

"Why Miss Charity you look very lovely with or without a bonnet." Cody charmingly said as he placed a yellow bonnet on her head. "Oh that is stunning, Miss Charity."

"Really?" She asked, and Cody placed a mirror in front of her. "Oh, it does look lovely, doesn't it?"

"Why ma'am it wouldn't look as lovely on anybody else's head." Cody sweetly replied.

Charity followed Cody to the counter and pulled out some money to pay for her new bonnet. "I don't know why I thought this but I sort of thought you and Jacy were a couple. I didn't realize it was Jimmy and Jacy that were the couple."

While taking the money from Miss Charity, Cody asked, "What do you mean? Jacy is my girl, not Jimmy's."

"Oh well, it's just that. Well, I saw this in the paper, and I just figured that Jacy liked Jimmy." Charity seriously replied.

"What, where in the paper? Show me what you're talking about." Cody walked around from the other side of the counter and watched as Charity opened the paper out on the counter. She pointed to the Cody's Song Writing Contest and right there as the byline was Jacy's name and the song was title Hickok Rock. Cody was stunned speechless. Why would Jacy do something like this?

Noticing the clock Melissa moaned, "Oh no, I'm going to be late. It won't look good if the teacher is late." Melissa took her new role very seriously. She grabbed her lunch on the table and ran toward the door.

"Wait! Where are you going?" Jacy hollered after her sister. "You can't leave. You need to tell Cody that you wrote this."

"I will. I promise just as soon as school lets out." Melissa hollered back at her sister and continued to run out of the building and down to the livery stable. Halfway there though Melissa remembered the letter that Jesse had asked her to mail for him. It was a letter to Rose. He missed her very much. So she doubled back and ran inside and handed Blythe the letter. Hurriedly she said hello and goodbye, and then took off for the livery once more.

"Well, maybe he won't even notice it." Kimberly suggested.

"Eventually he will see it. If not on his own someone is sure to tell him." Jacy decided she better go over and try to explain it to Cody. Explain it? She couldn't even explain it. She didn't know who had done it. Just as Jacy was about to leave, Cody came storming in.

Cody had been heading over to the saloon to confront Jacy with that article but as he was going by the PEG he saw her inside for Melissa had forgot to close the door when she left.

"JACY!!" Cody shouted. It startled and frightened Jacy so that she dropped the paper she was holding in her hand. "What is the meaning of this?" He held out the paper and waited for her reply.

"I didn't write it, Cody. I didn't. Melissa wrote it." Jacy quickly said.

"Then why is your name on it?" Cody sternly asked.

"I don't know." Jacy exasperatedly said.

"How can you not know how your name got on this song." Cody flatly said.

Kimberly hated to see her friend hurting so she spoke up for her, "Cody she didn't write it. Melissa wrote it. I should know. I publish the paper."

"Then why does it say that Jacy wrote it?" Cody was calming down some, but he was confused.

"Were not sure. Melissa and I had breakfast at the hotel this morning, and someone could have came in and changed the name." Kimberly could really only think of one person who might have done it, but she wasnt going to accuse anyone without any proof.

"Now who would want to do that?" Cody asked as he scratched his chin. He wasnt sure what to think any more.

"Maybe it was just a kid trying to play a joke. Heck, I dont know." Kimberly said.

"I didnt write it Cody. I didnt." Jacys face looked like she felt, the world was about to end. Well, at least her world was. She dropped her head and starred at the floor. Tears started misting her eyes.

Cody hated seeing Jacy so sad. He did love her. He loved her with all his heart and soul. Watching her enjoy life and being with her made his life happier. He thrilled at watching her discover new things and enjoying it for the first time. He loved how energetic and a hopeless romantic that she was.

So what kind of relationship could they have if he didnt trust and believe in her? If you love someone, you have to trust them. And right now thats what he wanted to do.

"Jacy, I believe you. If you say you didnt write it then you didnt." Cody walked over and lifted her head by her chin. And as he was about to kiss his beautiful maiden for the first time, he was interrupted yet again by Javier.

"Cody, Cody!" Javier ran inside the PEG. He tugged at Codys arm. "Cody come quick. Josies asking me all sorts of questions like wheres my pa? And shes getting suspicious. You have to come and help me."

Cody sighed and stepped back from Jacy. He smiled at her and wiped the tear that had escaped from her right eye on his finger. "Dont. Im sorry." Before he could say any more, Jacy smiled and nodded at him as if she understood and she forgave him. He didnt have to say any more.

Cody left with Javier to see what he could do about Josie. Jacy nodded at Kimberly and then went back to the saloon. Once again Jacy was happy. Her and Cody were still a couple.
