APRIL 3, 1860
Melissa had made up with Jesse, and she had persuaded Michael to become friends with Jesse again. Right after school Rose, Michael, Jesse, and Melissa went fishing. They had all asked for permission the night before. Jesse rode with Michael, and Melissa and Rose rode their own horses.
They all had a great time and the girls caught two fish each, and the boys caught three each. Rose volunteered to drop Jesse off at the waystation, and Michael rode a little way with Melissa before they parted, and he went home.
On the way back to town Melissa saw Desiree riding toward her. They talked for a little bit and then they accompanied each other back to town. Desiree had been out riding, not to far from town though because she still wasn't as good as rider as Melissa. But Melissa had told her if she kept practicing she would be an expert rider in no time.
