JULY 18, 1860
Charity smiled as she put the PEG down. What a great idea, she thought, to have people switch jobs. She sighed and drummed her fingers on the counter as she thought about who she could have switch. Suddenly she remembered hearing about how Meghan Saunders had fancied herself in love with the half-breed Pony Express rider.
Charity laughed softly at the reaction she believed they would have when Luke realized that Buck would have to move into his home. Not only that, but anyone with eyes could see that the Elena girl had set her sights on the barber. Yes, this would be interesting.
Since the pregnancy rumor had died down, maybe this would get some more gossip going. Charity found a piece of paper and wrote the note to Caller Bob that would get the wheels of her plan moving.

The two young women gave Clover their order and waited until the young woman walked away before they began talking.
"Are you gonna eat all that? I never saw you eat more than a sandwich for lunch."
"Yes I'm hungry."
Corey arched an eyebrow and shrugged, "So, how are things in wedded blissville?" She asked.
Meg laughed softly, "We're doing very well. How are things in the shop?"
"Your husband is the worst boss ever. He works me to the bone while he sits around reading." Corey laughed at Meg's raised eyebrows. "I'm kidding, Meg. Luke is a wonderful boss."
"You had me worried there." Meg smiled, "Have you read the PEG lately?" Corey nodded. "What did you think about Lara's suggestion?"
"You mean about switching jobs?"
"Yes."
"I think there are gonna be some very upset people around town. Do you think folks will do it?"
Meg nodded. "I've heard about people switching. I was thinking maybe we could do it."
Corey arched an eyebrow at her friend, "Uhh, Meg you don't exactly have a job."
"I do to. I work in the clinic and housework is a very difficult job which women don't get nearly enough credit for."
"Okay, okay I'm sorry. You really wanna?"
"Wanna what?"
The two women turned at the sound of the man's voice to see Luke pulling up a chair. I hope I'm not interrupting." He said as he placed a quick kiss to Meg's cheek.
"Meg was saying that we should switch jobs like Lara suggested." Corey said.
"Meg you don't have a job."
Corey placed her hand on Luke's arm and shook her head, "Don't get her started." Luke nodded silently.
"Don't you think that would be okay, this way I could watch you while you work."
"I do more than just watch him, Meghan." Corey said.
"She sure does which is why I think you shouldn't switch. Corey's job is pretty tedious." Corey nodded silently and turned to Meg.
"Don't you think I could do it?" Meg asked, the hurt in her voice evident. Corey turned her attention to Luke.
"I know you could, but I don't think that you should be trying it right now." Luke answered. Corey looked back at Meghan.
"I don't understand then why I shouldn't switch with Corey. It's for a good cause Luke."
"I know it is." Luke was stopped from saying anything further by Clover who brought the girls their lunches. Luke ordered the same meal as Corey and continued when Clover left. "Meghan you shouldn't want to switch jobs, you should be taking it easy."
"Why?"
"You know why."
"No Luke, I'm lost. Give me one good reason why I shouldn't switch."
"Because you're pregnant."
The sound of silverware clattering cut off any answer Meg was going to give. The couple had forgotten about the other woman at the table. They turned to Corey who was staring at them wide-eyed. "Meg?"
Meg smiled weakly, "Hee, hee, surprise."
"Oh my G-"
Luke clamped a hand over her mouth. "Shh, no one knows, and we'd like to keep it that way until we tell Daniel and Serena."
"Oooooh, Daniel is gonna have a fit." Corey said to Luke, then turned quickly to her best friend. "Oh Meg, I'm so happy for you. You are happy right?"
"We're very happy. Will you keep our secret?"
"Of course. That explains the big meal and the fact that Meg was looking a little round in the face." Meg gasped and Corey continued. "Well I wasn't going to say anything. When can I expect to become an aunt?"
"In March." Luke said with a wide smile. "Now do you agree that Meg shouldn't switch jobs?"
"Definitely. You shouldn't even be here. You should be laying down in bed." Corey said. She had an idea about who she would switch jobs with. Now that Meg was pregnant, Corey knew that her friend didn't need any extra stress and she was going to make sure Meg was stress free.
Meg laughed. "Please don't give Luke any ideas. Fine, I can't fight both of you. Corey and I will not switch jobs."
"Good." Luke said as Clover brought his meal to him.
"So when are you going to tell Daniel? You can't hide it forever." Corey asked between bites.
Meg sighed, "Later today."
"I definitely pity you Luke, Daniel's gonna kill you."
"I have that all figured out. I'm going to tell him Meg continuously tied me to our bed and wouldn't let me leave until she had her way with me."
"Luke! You wouldn't." Meg said in horror, then thought a second. "Yes you would."
Corey laughed along with Luke. The three ate their meals and spoke contentedly. After they finished, the two women left to shop and Luke paid the bill.
