NOVEMBER 25, 1860
Marta was stroking the nose of a horse when Ted came into the livery thinking I really need to buy myself a horse. Maybe I can get Jacy to help choose one. As Ted walked midway into the barn, he noticed Marta. He walked up to her and said, "It's much better if you stroke them here, on their neck." Ted demonstrated.
"Oh, thank you. I didn't know that." Marta welcomed the information.
Ted said, "You're welcome." Then he saw Samantha leading Reflections into the barn from the back.
"Good morning, Samantha." Ted walked up to her and the horse.
"Good morning. I have Reflections ready for you." Samantha looked over and saw Marta, and she whispered to Ted, "Why don't you ask Marta to go riding with you? She's always in here petting the horses, but she never goes riding." Ted looked over at Marta.
Ted took Reflections reins and walked over to Marta, "Marta would you like to go riding with me."
Shocked Marta's mouth went wide open and then she stuttered, "Uhhh . . . ummmm . . . I--" She finally collected her thoughts, "No thank you."
Ted started leading Reflections to the door and then stopped. "You know Marta I used to be afraid of riding horses until somebody taught me how to ride. If that's why you don't want to go riding with me, I would be glad to help teach you." Ted kept walking.
"Wait! How did you know?" Marta asked as she walked towards him.
"Because I used to be just like you." He answered.
"I would like to learn to ride." Marta said.
"Come on. Don't worry, I'll take it slow." Ted assured her. She followed him outside, and Ted thought back to what Jacy had done with him, and he imitated her.
