NOVEMBER 10, 1861

Marta was thrilled when Desiree told her that Walter wanted her and Devany to move into the house out back. At first she was suspicious, but after Desiree told her that Walter thought that she and Devany could make it look nice, and it would also give him an extra bed in the hotel to rent out, she wasn’t doubtful any more.

She took some of her savings, and her and Devany bought a bunch of supplies and other items for their new resident. And every day after work and school, Marta and Devany worked on getting their new home clean and in proper order. And when they were done, they felt really good that they had accomplished something.
