OCTOBER 19, 1861

Lou, Jesse and Ike rode over to Buck and Caly’s land. They went to relieve Cody and Kid, so that they could head back to the way station to have supper. As Lou, Ike and Jesse arrived at the construction site, so did Teaspoon. They saw Buck off by himself looking over some papers.

“Hi fellas, I thought I would see how you’re doing.” Teaspoon said as he swung down off of Banter. He walked around watching Kid and Cody finish nailing down the floorboards. “Lookin’ good fellas, lookin’ good.

Lou walked over to Teaspoon, Cody and Kid. “Cody, Kid, you’re to go and get some supper. Ike, Jesse and I are going to take over.”

“That sounds good to me.” Cody stood up. He was famished. He handed his hammer over to Ike as he passed him.

Kid handed his hammer over to Lou and nodded. He mounted Katie and followed Cody. He glanced back and watched as Lou picked up a board and started hammering it into the house frame. It was getting close to the wedding day, and Kid knew that the house wouldn’t be finished by then, but hopefully they would have finished before Buck and Caly returned from their honeymoon.

Ike and Jesse did some measuring and sawed some boards to the right size and then joined Lou in swinging the hammer.

Buck looked up from the plan his future father-in-law had helped him design. "Hey guys, thanks for helping me with this." He brought the plans over to where Lou and Teaspoon stood. He wanted to show them the layout of the second and third floors. He was going to give Caly her dream home.

Caly rode up with a saddle bag full of treats and some fresh lemonade for everyone. She handed out the treats and smiles. "When we get back you all are going to have to come over for a visit and supper. I'm hoping Buck will teach me some of his people’s ways of cooking and what they ate."

Buck nods. "You'll learn them I promise." He turned back to the plans and his friends. Caly stuck around and helped a little. It was getting late, and they decided to quit because it was too dark to work very well, so Buck accompanied Caly home, Teaspoon went back to town, and Lou, Ike and Jesse went home to the way station.
