MARCH 10, 1860

"Ok girls, you can take a break now" Charlie said to Clover and Lilly when they finished the cleaning after the lunchtime.

Clover and Lilly nodded, they sure needed a time to rest. Clover took a glass of water and sat down at the table next to the window. She watched the movement outside.

Lilly walked slowly towards Clover, "May I sit down with you, Clover?"

Clover looked at her and then she turned her attention back to the street, "If you want to!"

"So", Lilly started, "Do you like living at the boarding house?"

"It's a place to live," Clover replied, not enjoying the conversation. She had others thing on her mind.

"What is it like to live there?" Lilly insisted on the subject.

"Why are you so curious about it anyway? Are you planning to move in? You have your own place," Clover said bothered with her questions.

"No, I'm only making conversation, Clover. God, I'm trying to be your friend," Lilly replied. She didn't expect that reaction from Clover. She knew Clovers reputation in town, but she thought it was only a rumor.

"Look Lilly, you want to know about the boarding house, well it's a place to sleep and eat and that's all. It isn't a great thing," Clover affirmed as she stood up, "And if I wanted a friend, I'm sure I wouldn't look for one in you, Lilly, so please it's enough to have to work with you," she completed and went towards the kitchen.

"God," Lily exclaimed, "Ok, I was only trying to be nice."

"Don't try, Lilly," Clover replied before stepping into the kitchen.

Lilly sat for a little while. If Clover didn't want her friendship it was ok. Lilly knew she could find someone else, as for Clover, at least she was a good co-worker, but nothing more.
