JUNE 16, 1861
Caly and Lee were in town getting fitted for their 4th of July, celebration dance when Daniel spotted them. When Lee and Caly were just outside of his office he asked, "Lee, how is Jimmy?"
Lee looked puzzled, "He hasn't made it back yet. Him and Jacy went to go find Melissa after she ran off with Jake."
Daniel was confused now. "I think you better come into my office. We need to talk."
After Caly and Lee were seated, Daniel explained, "A couple of weeks ago, Melissa came to get me. She took me out to her and Jacy's place. Jimmy had been hurt." Lee went pale, and Caly took her hand. Daniel continued as gently as he could. "He had hit his head pretty hard. Now all of his injuries have healed except for one. Lee, he can't remember who he is. Jacy was worried about all of the noise and the rush of things out at the station and thought that he would get lost in the shuffle, so I agreed to let him stay out there with her. She said that she would take care of him. And she has. But I had assumed that she would have sent Melissa out to the station to let you all know what had happened. Especially since you and Jimmy are engaged." When he saw the baffled look on Lee's face, "Meg told me." Lee nodded. "Listen, Lee, I'm sorry. If I had known that she wasn't going to tell you, Id have never agreed to let him stay out there. I would have insisted that the station would be the best place for him."
"That's alright. Can I see him?"
"Thank you."
As Caly and Lee left, Caly asked, "You want me to go with you?"
"No, I want to see him alone."
"Ok. I'll tell pa what's going on. I'm sure he would give you the rest of the day off."
"Thanks, Caly." Lee said giving one of her best friends a hug. Caly headed toward the ranch while Lee headed toward Jacy's place.
When Lee got there, Jacy was the one who answered the door. When she saw Lee, she inwardly groaned. She knew that Lee would be here sooner or later. She was hoping it would have been much later though.
Lee didn't give Jacy time to greet her. "Jacy, let me see Jimmy."
"Dr. Thompson said it wouldn't be a good idea."
"Dr. Thompson told me where he was and that he thinks it could help Jimmy if he saw me. Now let me in." Lee sternly said. She was having a hard time keeping her temper in check. She didn't know why Jacy was being this way. She was going to see her fianc even it meant getting Teaspoon to force Jacy into letting her see him.
"Well, he's asleep now and I think even Dr. Thompson would agree that he needs his sleep."
Lee took a deep breath and with forced control she slowly said, "Jacy, if you don't let me in, I'll force myself in."
She thought about it for half a second, but realizing that if Lee forced herself in, then she might find the real Jacy when she was looking for Jimmy. "Fine, but just for a little while and don't you wake him up."
"Just take me to him."
She took Lee to Jimmy's room, but when she started to open the door, Lee said, "I'm going to be alone with him." She saw the fire in Lee's eyes and knew that she better let Lee in alone.
As Lee sat there beside Jimmy, she said quietly, "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you Jimmy. I had no idea that you were even back, let alone hurt." Then her one sided conversation with Jimmy turned to a prayer. "Lord, please let him be ok. Please bring back his memory." As a tear rolled down her face, it hit Jimmy hand and he opened his eyes.
"Lee?" He asked.
She looked up at him, "You remember me?"
"Yeah," he whispered as the memories that he and Lee had shared came back to him. He continued to whisper, "I know that I couldn't remember anything. But seeing you, I remember you, and I remember that I love you."
"I love you, too." She whispered back.
"Listen, I don't know what's up with Jacy. She has tried to convince me that her and I were supposed to get married, and that you were just a crazy woman that wanted me. I want to find out what she is up to." After a pause he whispered, "I think she is supposed to be the girl of one of my friends. Someone I work with."
"Cody. He's like a brother to us. Jacy is supposed to be his girl."
"Ok, why don't I try to figure out why she is toying with Cody? I can act like I still don't remember anything."
"Ok, but why are we whispering?"
"Just in case she is listening through the door."
"Oh ok."
"Alright, I'll act like you don't remember anything, and I won't tell anybody. I'll tell everyone that you want to be out here just until you get your memory back."
Lee and Jimmy heard Jacy walking down the hall, so Lee and Jimmy shared a quick passionate kiss before Lee said in a normal tone of voice, "Fine. If you don't remember me, then I guess you never really loved me. If that's the way you want it, I'll leave you alone." As she passed by Jacy, she said, "You want Jimmy, well, it seems as though you have him now. Just stop toying with Cody. It's not fair to him."
She watched Lee leave. She couldn't believe
it. Was it that easy to get rid of Lee? She was glad that her plan had worked.
