DECEMBER 20, 1860

After Lee dropped the mail off to Bythe, she walked around the store and saw a coat she though that would look good on Jimmy. His coat was getting old and torn up. It was time for a new coat. She could give it to him for Christmas. "Good afternoon, Mr. Montgomery," Lee said as she passed by Charlie.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Ethridge." Charlie said. He was here for one purpose and one purpose only, that was to buy Caly a Cameo. "Good afternoon, Miss Jones," he smiled when he saw Destiny.

Destiny made sure that her daughter was not looking when she bought the necklace for a Christmas gift. As they were walking out the store, Jemima asked, "Mamma, wait here, I forgot something. Could you wait here, please?"

"Sure, Sweetie, just hurry up."

"Yes, Mam." She called over her shoulder as she ran inside. She grabbed the music box that she had seen her mother looking at. She brought it up to Mr. Cromwell and paid for it with her allowance. "Miss Bythe, could you please wrap this up for me, so that Mama won't know what is in it until Christmas?"

"Sure, Jemima." Bythe said as she took the music box. She wrapped it up in a pretty green paper. "Good afternoon Miss Simpson!" She yelled as she passed Ivy on her way out of the store.

Ivy had seen how worn Noah's gloves were and she was there to buy him a new pair of gloves for Christmas. "Hello, Lilly."

"Hello, Ivy." Lilly answered back. Lilly had to be careful that Javier did not see her buy his Christmas present, a set of new cufflinks with his initials on them. Simon has special ordered them for her.

"Lilly, I have your package all wrapped up for you and under the tree."

"Thank you, Mr. Cromwell. Here's the money for it."

"Lilly, you and my son are courting, you have most of your dinners here, and you spend a lot of time with my son and I. I think it's time you start calling me Simon," he smiled as he tried to make Lilly a little more comfortable around him.

Lilly smiled. "Thank you, Simon."

Javier had ordered Lilly a bracelet and had the words Will you marry me? engraved on the inside. He couldn't wait until she saw it. Simon knew about this, and he couldn't wait until Lilly became apart of his family, became his daughter. He already thought of her that way. What Simon did not know was that Javier had also ordered his father a black silk tie for his suit. Simon's old tie was old and had a hole in it from all of the wear.

"Javier, watch the store, I have an errand to run." Simon said as soon as all of the customers left.

Simon found Walter and asked, "Mr. Simmons, do you have any gentle horses for sell? I want to get Javier a horse for Christmas."

"I sure do. I have one red quarter horse. She's as gentle as a baby." Walter smiled.

"How much do you want for her?

"Well, Mr. Cromwell I think I could let her go for fifteen dollars." Walter replied.

Simon rubbed his chin, smiled and then held out his hand to Walter, "You have a deal. I don't want to get her until Christmas eve though. Is that alright?"

"That's fine." Walter grinned and took Simon's hand. "I'm sure he will like her." Walter walked Simon to his horse and they exchanged goodbyes.
